I’m interested if any of you have one of these, or have an opinion.
I have one inbound as a suppressor host.
Griffin 46 caliber “Bushwhacker” suppressor
Thinking about chopping the barrel back to the handguard for $0 SBR registration.
Good idea?… Foolish?

.
No but I guess I have a similar setup using a Marlin 1894 CST, with a Mystic Suppressor (now upgraded to an Infiniti).
It is one of my favorite firearms ever, being light and handy without the suppressor, but not that bulky with it. Although it is quiet since minus 38 special compatible, the suppressor makes it even more so. I think a similar set up in 44 Magnum would be awesome (...or 45 Colt might even be better...
)
As far as being a Rossi versus a Marlin, I actually have not found Rossi rifles to be problematic. They are working guns not safe queens, for sure, but so are my Marlins in that way.

No experience myself. I do have a Rossi 92 and it is a great rifle. I know some don't like them, but my experience is positive. I had NKJ slick mine up, so that is part of it.
How many rounds would you lose from the tubular magazine by cutting the cut down to the end of the handguard?

Re: Rossi R95 “Triple Black” 44 Mag
Looks like 2 or 3 rounds lost if the mag tube is cut flush with the handguard.
Hopefully, I won’t need more than 3 or 4 rounds 44 magnum before topping off on animate targets. I can pull out my Garand I suppose if I find myself in that situation. Even Governor SpamBurger isn’t coming for my Garand this year. And I have “other” guns.
I’ve always wanted a suppressed lever gun. The $0 NFA fee on the suppressor (before July in Virginia) is an incentive. $0 on the SBR too saves more.
And I’m old and rather ill. Last chance for me in multiple ways. Pain was pretty even today. About a 5 on average overall. But the good news is, at least my hair didn’t hurt that much today. “I just wanna have a little fun before I die”

I’m not a huge fan of the black furniture.
For my good luck, some fella on eBay was getting rid of his brand new R95 wood he pulled off a 45-70 in order for him to install skeletonized tactical furniture.
I hope it fits the 44 mag. I’d lay good odds it will.

Go for it. I prefer longer barrels and magazines but like the idea. Ive owned 7 rossis, 3 x357's,3 x 44's and 1 x 454 casull. 3 needed some work, usually just polishing and taking sharp edges off things. 5 of the 7 fed both magnum and short special length COAL no problem.
Be aware most jacketed bullets wont expand subsonically if thats your intention. Hornadies expansion envelope is wrong, the bullets need another 200fps more to expand usually. Expanding 44 cal bullets include the Speer short barrel 200grain GDHP hollowpoint which will start expanding around 800fps impact, still holds together under 1100fps and fragments in the 1200's-1300's. The 200 grain hornady XTP and 200 grain Barnes TAC-XP will both expand just under 1000fps impact as well. Cast bullets will of course kill.
So your tacti-lever doesnt feel alone, here is how you really upset the look. I run a 20" as its used for high power hunting too.

Re: Rossi R95 “Triple Black” 44 Mag
Only reason I can think of why I'd want a .429 bullet to expand is to LIMIT penetration.
I don't plan on shooting anything where that will be a concern.
Otherwise, that .429 will do what it does. Very well.

Re: Rossi R95 “Triple Black” 44 Mag
I cant fault that reasoning. I personally like bullets opening to 65-70cal and the right subsonic will. That said a .429 never fails to ruin something day.
Re: Rossi R95 “Triple Black” 44 Mag
I own a Rossi R95 in 30-30 that is quite well built. Fit and finish is flawless. Accuracy is 1.75 - 2 inches at 100 yards with plain Hornady 150 grain Interlock ammo. I bought Weaver scope bases and rings to mount a Simmons scope. Hope this is helpful. TR
