I don't have anything between a 223/5.56 and a 30-30 or 308, other than my wonderful 6mm Remington in a 1975 Ruger M77V, so "of course" I need something in the 223-243 range in a levergun, right...???

AR-15's are really hard to beat in terms of practical functionality (like Glocks), but are just not as FUN as leverguns, and for varmints or home protection (unless there really is an apocalyptic zombie-swarm) a levergun is really just as practical, or perhaps even moreso.

Is this really true? The reason I ask is that I don’t remember ever choosing one of my ARs for any purpose that I have.

AR pattern or any battle rifle is just a soulless tool. Yes I have them, hardly ever take one out, they just don't 'do it ' for me.
I like and enjoy any and all firearms but I'd walk past an AR with a table full of loaded mags at the range to go watch a guy teach his kids with a Chipmunk. 22 .

I shot one of these recently in 223. It had iron sights though, no scope. There was only one thing I didn't like, the magazine not being a little more flush, but I can live with that and there may be shorter profile mags available.
What I did like.
Very smooth action.
Fed great.
Nice wood and checkering.
Points very well for me with irons.
Very accurate, even with irons.
Very good extraction and ejection.
Great trigger.
Nice weight to pack.
Balances nice.
Not to mention and although I don't know this for certain, but I think they take any AR magazine.
I also tore the rifle down. They have an AR style bolt and firing pin, very easy to service. Easy to clean from the breach.

I would like to get one and I might when I come into some more $.

I think if I had one I'd use some of the 5-round magazines that are pretty short. Not as compact as the Mini-14 5-rounders though.

A Henry Long-ranger in 243 Win also seems like a bundle of long-range fun...

Upon reading the title I thought, there ain't much that I wouldn't trade an AR for. Welp, you hit one of them.

That said, an A2 rifle is the best looking and feeling AR, and I would like to have one. I traded the last one on an 1894 Marlin.

I saw one at a gunshop over in PA. picked it up and worked the action .it was smooth as silk....if they come out with it in .360 Buckhammer i'll buy it today. I could Deer hunt with it in Ohio............. At least it would sound better when I tell Momma. .

My shooting partner had a Henry Long Ranger in .243. We tried all sorts of stuff to get it to shoot better, various loads and bullet weights, checking the barrel channel clearance but nothing really improved it so he sold it. He also didn't like the rack and pinion action, preferring Marlins or other Henrys with more conventional levers.

I agree 100% and would trade my AR15 in .223 or my AR12 12 gauge shotgun for anything I like. But not for the levergun above! It does nothing for me just as my two do nothing for me either.

By looks alone, I'm undecided. In either .223 or 300BO, I'm not sure I'd spend that much. I'd have to have my hands on one to decide. While I'm not a big fan of the AR platform, I do enjoy the ones I have.

I've got two Wilson Combat ARs, and they are fantastic to shoot, but I honestly haven't shot them since I taught a class with them last August. I've kind of phased out of the 'tactical' part of my life, and mainly stick to shooting and carrying stuff I really like, which is leverguns and revolvers. I don't know if I'd pick that out of a rack, but it's always nice to have options.

Looks better than an AR. I am familiar with M16 pattern firearms. First assigned an M16, then an M16A1, then an M16A2. I would need to think a little to disassemble and reassemble one in the complete dark anymore. At one time I could do that without even thinking. I never liked the M16, or the M16A1. The A2 was accurate and fit just right. I am not against owning an AR, I simply think they are ugly. Ever hear that old song, "Get an Ugly Girl to Marry You!"? ARs are like the ugly girl. They sure can cook, and your friends are never going to try to take her from you.

My AR15 is the least used firearm I own. I bet it hasn't had a box of ammo through it in 7 years since I bought it new! Test fired and put away since new.

That's entirely too ugly for me to ever own one, I'll hang on to my AR.
