Cleaning hands after rubbing in Tru-Oil
Those who have refinished stocks with Tru-Oil know that multiple thin coats rubbed in vigorously by hand give the best result. In the past I have just tried scrubbing and scrubbing with dish soap and hot water to get the oil off my skin after putting on a coat, but my hands remained sticky for hours. This time I am simply pouring a dash of odorless mineral spirits on my bare hands, then washing this off with dish soap. Works great, but how dumb is it to expose flesh to mineral spirits?

Bill the old time painters usually got cancer of one form or another from all the solvents used with oil paints.
I knew one crew of painters that ate pepperoni pizza every day, the pepperoni oil took paint off like thinner with little scrubbing.
There used to be a product called Invisible Glove, you put some on and rubbed it in and all you had to do wash wash with soap and water and even dirty diesel oil would come off!
I just use a nitrile, latex or even a pvc glove anymore.
WD40 also removes oil based products, probably better for you but still a petroleum product.
Oh and try GOOP, the lanolin hand cleaner, works good too!

Try a little vegetable oil first, rub vigorously, wipe off, then the GOJO

Oderless mineral spirits don't have all the toxic chemicals that older regular mineral spirits had, so not nearly as nasty. If you were doing this on a regular basis they might still have some harm, but occasionally to clean your hands off, and wash your hands with soap and water soon after I doubt you'll ever have any issues Bill.
