New Year’s Resolution

Post by Scott Tschirhart »

I’m going to make a tough one this year.

No new guns. No used guns. No trading guns.

I have hubs that I have not even fully developed loads for.

So I am going to be content with what I have and not lust after something new or different. That means staying out of gun shops which is the hard part.

That’s gonna ( no pun intended ) be hard Scott , local gun store is one of my favorite places , been a customer for more than 30 yrs , nice people .
I’m on the ,sell one buy one plan now , trying to down size a little. Good luck.

I admire this resolution Scott. I'll have to think about it as I have been notorious for buying a new (usually used) gun of some sort, playing with it for a few months and turning it over. Been doing this for many years, driven by firearms curiosity. (The weirdest one was a Dutch Beaumont rifle with the firing pin spring contained in the hollow bolt handle.)
One thing I will commit to this year is trying to reduce the amount of plastic -- coated cookware, plastic cutting boards, plastic bowls and storage -- in my kitchen. Wow, is that boring, huh?

I resolve to spend the amount of money I would have spent on new guns on loading components instead. I'll try to find some of the Alliant powders that have been absent for so long and also buy a few more aluminum 4 cavity bullet molds of my favorite old designs.

Good one Scott!
Been thinking the same thing myself, though I have not put it in the form of a resolution.
Browsing the used guns in Cabela's Gun Library is a dangerous thing so I have been cutting that out.
I made a list of loads that I need to test and the guns to test them in and it seems I have more than enough to do the testing. And since a good friend gifted me a chronograph yesterday, I now have no excuses.

My thoughts have been along the line of "Good grief! How long has it been since I fired that gun?" as I look through the safe.

Gonna change that.

I made the same resolution last year, for the same reasons. That flew out the window in February when I fell into an Old Model 44 Flattop, followed shortly after by a OM 6.5" Single Six.

As already mentioned the trick is to stay out of the fun shop. This is the year I'll stick to it...

Im thinking seriously about SELLING stuff i haven't shot in years. I know I can use the space in my safe... a 24 gun with close to 40 stuffed into it. Yeah, yeah I can hear it now- you need a bigger safe !
Seriously though I cant remember when I last shot my 629 or 44 Carbine and a few others.

That’s part of the problem. I have so many guns that I just don’t shoot.

I was just lusting after your K22 Masterpiece, Scott. I don't think I'd be able to keep that resolution! :D

Um, check the date Scott... It's January 1st -- not April 1st!!!

And you thought you'd fool us...

We shall see. I shared this with you specifically to make myself more accountable.

I don’t blame you for scoffing.

Oh my goodness -- thats a tough one

How about stuff you put in layaway in December - does that count ? ---- I was at my shop doing fingerprints for suppressors for Silencer Shop and they were having a Christmas Eve sale on all used guns --- i had an eye on 2 226 Sigs - one a Legion model SAO and the other a MK25 Navy replica --- i couldnt decide and just said -- "Dangit - here's 25% down , hold both for me until i get more money " ---- figuring i will shoot both and sell the one that doesnt tickle my fancy later

But other than that small indiscretion -- i will concentrate on silencers in 2026 -- and loading more ammo for my big boomers :D
