I thought Indiana was more pro-gun than this...

Looks like this guy was acting rationally - if someone kicks in your door to gain entry, knowing you're there and don't want to let them in, I think it is reasonable to assume they intend bodily harm or worse, and thus reasonable to defent yourself.

Maybe it was because there was marijuana in the home, but that is a separate issue. He may be all kinds of bad-guy, and if they want to go after him for whatever he did that was actually illegal, fine, but that doesn't mean his self-defense wasn't legitimate.

Agreed, Doc.

But a convicted felon in possession of a handgun AND a controlled substance - he's
got an uphill battle ahead of him in court. DA is drooling over this one. Was it a drug
deal gone bad?! THAT will further complicate things for him. Big mess.........

If a person is killed during the commission of a crime, it is considered murder. Both shooter and shootee were felons. One had drugs. The other tried to break into his house while both were armed. My guess is he got the drugs on credit and time to pay came and went so the bill collector came to the house to collect. That placed the homeowner in a position to kill or be killed but it all came about from the commission of a crime. That is why he is being charged with murder. Do I know this to be the facts of what happened? NO! But read the story. Felon, drugs, gun, dead man. Charges of murder. Not homeowner shoots armed man breaking into house.

And the other question is: The media rarely if ever these days gets things right. Why trust them about this story?

True - if he's a drug dealer and the other dude is a drug dealer kicking in the door cuz they are having a 'business disagreement', then THAT would make sense that he's in trouble. (BTW he kinda LOOKS like 'trouble' in the jail photo, though I suppose we all would look less than our best).

And true also - the 'news' media seldom gets anything right, especially when they try to get their story out first.
