Legendary Lawman Model 94 Carbine
I bought this Legendary Lawman Carbine, probably 20 years ago from a friend, new in the box. But the rear sight was broken, as was not too uncommon for those post 64 Winchesters. So, I never even fired it, but I did remove the rear sight and installed a barrel blank and added a William's 5D receiver sight with a huge daylight aperture. I had thought about taking it out and shooting it, but sort of hated to because it was unfired, but today, I decided it was time to shoot it and see if the sights would align without having to add a taller front sight which I have often found necessary when going to a receiver sight. This is the Trapper model with the 16" barrel.
And all I can say is Wow! I can't believe I have been sitting on this gun and not using it for all of these years. It shot great, and while I didn't finish sighting it in, its only a couple inches off at 30 yards. So, I can tell it's going to be fine. it fed fired and ejected flawlessly and I was surprised at the light recoil with some old 170 grain Federal softpoints, I had on hand. I am mentally kicking myself in the butt for letting this gun remain a safe queen for all of these years.

Yes, 30/30 and I was just thinking a few minutes ago that it would have been nice to had it in 38/40, but I would not go to the expense to change it.

Nice!
A few years ago, I was looking for a top eject Trapper in 30-30. I couldn't believe what they were getting for them. I found a NIB Legendary Lawmen on guns international that was cheaper than the others that I'd been looking at. It was at a Cabelas somewhere out west and they shipped it for free to one closer so I had nothing to lose. When I went to look at it the guy in the gun library asked if I knew about the serial number. The add didn't mention it, so I said no. It was number 25. He asked me what I was going to do with it, as it was a pretty good buy.
I told him I was going to go home and shoot it. I put a Lyman 66 on it and it shoots great. It has beautiful wood and a smooth action.
I hope you enjoy you enjoy yours too!

Wow! That's a low serial number. Mine is 111,000 plus later down the road. You said yours's is smooth, and mine is too, I think it's the smoothest leveraction I own, and definitely the smoothest model 94 I own, and I have several.OldWin wrote: ↑Wed Dec 31, 2025 8:43 pm Nice!

Re: Legendary Lawman Model 94 Carbine
I got mine from a fellow forum member a couple of years after joining, and as I've found, like many of Winchester's commemoratives, an excellent shooter! I don't have a low serial, but a high 13K. If you like top eject Winchester 94s, the commemoratives are usually an excellent value and good shooters.

Re: Legendary Lawman Model 94 Carbine
Well, I have a pile of 94s too. From first year production on up till the late 80s. It's not the smoothest one I own, but of the 3 post 64s I have, it is by far. The biggest reason I bought it is that the configuration is pretty correct for a carbine. It even has the earlier style long nose forend. The only 2 things that are off is the forend would be an inch shorter overall on a factory pre-war trapper, and the front sight would be the block and pin type. That being said, I like the dovetailed post style used on some of the later 94s. It gives an excellent sight picture with a receiver sight. I dislike the ramp front sights used on 94 carbines since the late 30s.Lastmohecken wrote: ↑Thu Jan 01, 2026 12:53 amWow! That's a low serial number. Mine is 111,000 plus later down the road. I really wish it didn't have the stick medallion and the "Legendary Lawmen" on the side of the barrel. The rest of it actually looks pretty good to me. Since it's such a good shooter, I can certainly live with it.

Re: Legendary Lawman Model 94 Carbine
You should remove the butt plate and inspect it. I bought one from an estate several years ago that had set in a closet in the new box for years. There was some rust under the butt plate. Wasn't hard to remedy but was there.
Hope yours is ok.
Kindest regards,
Zeph

Thanks, there's another thread on here about it, I just recently bought it. Waiting for some Leupold scope mounts, right now.

I don't have a first year production, but I do have a 1898 rifle, round barrel and probably 26" barrel. No bluing hardly left on it, but still a good shooter.OldWin wrote: ↑Thu Jan 01, 2026 6:59 amWell, I have a pile of 94s too. From first year production on up till the late 80s. Nice! I don't let finish wear really bother me. If a rifle was well cared for, and in good shooting condition, that is all that matters. Matter of fact, as a shooter, I prefer it. If it looks all pristine, i don't want to carry it afield or use it.Lastmohecken wrote: ↑Thu Jan 01, 2026 10:36 amI don't have a first year production, but I do have a 1898 rifle, round barrel and probably 26" barrel. Re: Legendary Lawman Model 94 Carbine
Yep, I don't let honest wear on bluing or a few scratches on a stock bother me, very much. I try not to abuse a rifle, but I am going to use it, if I want to, no matter how fancy it is. I never really understood people when they say they want a plastic stocked rifle, to hunt with because they don't want to scratch up a wood stocked gun. I guess I just don't like the looks or feel of handling a plastic stocked rifle, I am going to pick the blued steel and walnut, pretty much every time.OldWin wrote: ↑Thu Jan 01, 2026 10:45 amNice! I really like how accurate mine is also. I've only shot cast bullets out of it, but quite a bunch of those. I planned on hunting with it this year, but didn't get it done.
Oldwin that is interesting on your serial number, mine is a low number, below 1000, but it's preceded by several zeros. Like LL00009XX
