What thread are peep sight apertures?
Could anyone confirm the thread of Lyman and Williams peep sight apertures? I may order some taps next time around.

There are at least 2 different ones.
Check your Brownells catalog under Merit disk offerings.

don't know how I did it, but I ended up with very different tang sights on two different rifles that both have 10-32 thread and can share a Hadley Cup

here's a good place to check thread sizes

There seem to be two differant sizes, 10 x 32 and 7/32 x 40. Good luck finding the second. You can try here: http://www.victornet.com/cgi-bin/victor ... ,1170,1171
Good folks and they may be able to help.

There's actually three sizes, but Lyman and Williams use 7/32-40. The Taurus tang sight uses a different thread and I had to tap it to fit the various Lyman and Williams(7/32-40) sized Merit apertures that I own.

There are two common sizes, but a variety of other sized aperture threads also. I have a bag full of various apertures I've collected over the years, and have at least 5 different sizes or thread counts.

Re: What thread are peep sight apertures?
Indeed, I have some Merits but they’re all threaded for the odd Olympic and International sights and are decidedly not the same thread as a Redfield on my Marlin 39a. That Redfield and Williams share the later more common size.
I wish I bought a couple Merits to fit the Williams. Just when I tried I found that the old man had died and his kids were inconsistent in making any sights from the boxes of parts. Sad As I was a 45 minute drive away from his old shop address. I’d have gone there if it would have facilitated getting a handful of sights.
Their site is still up but the last I knew it was unmonitored.
BTW, I am a new poster here, scads of threads I need to read here! Great stuff!
