My Neighbor Got His Deer This Evening.

Post by JimT »

Used his BMW motorcycle and his right leg.

I got him to the Emergency. He has 2 breaks on his tibia but won't require any surgery. The Lord was looking out for him. Knocked the antlers clean off the deer.

Expensive (and painful) way to save on ammo I guess. Glad he's okay.

I told him a gun was much easier on everyone involved but if he really needed to do it with a vehicle his 3/4 chevy would have been a better choice.

Our old mailman and family friend hit a deer on his Harley years ago. The collision put Jimmy in the hospital, more than a few broken bones for both he and his bike.
Was another guy not far from here hit a bear on his Harley, guy was hospitalized, bear was killed but his bike was none the worse for wear.

I have read that more than half of motorcycle fatalities east of the Mississippi are from collisions with deer.

An incident like that was the beginning of the end of a fellow newspaper editor's left leg below the knee. Took a while for infection and re-infection to prompt the amputation. Just a yearling blacktail near Jacksonville, Oregon, one sunny afternoon.

Between stupid motorists, a less than perfect balance as I age, and now innocent creatures of the woodland... my interest in motorbiking is being reduced by the year.
