Hello Levergunners,

First, good to be back up and running. New VPS, 4 X the memory and capacity. Hopefully it will be SOOOOOO Fast us old guys can't type fast enough to keep up!

How about a WHAT ARE YOU UP TO conversation? This can be hunting, shooting, tinkering, family or, "hey, pray for me"... Whatever is on your mind that you would like to share.

I'll start:

First, you all know me as "Skinner Sights". Skinner is growing steadily. We are 15 - 20% up in our direct sales over last year. The firearm world is down about 30% overall but Leverguns (thanks to all of you) are still a hot commodity.

We make a LOT of things these days for leverguns but, are expanding our lineup into other platforms as well. Just this week we put into production what I've had prototypes and made one offs for over the years. 3 new sights that will be listed on our website. SkinnerSights.com

Winchester Model 70 MAGNUM... The 375 H&H and the 458 Win Mag guns had a .330" hole spacing on the rear bridge as opposed to the .860" of the "non" magnums. Our 860 sight works really well on the standard cartridge rifles and now we have its equal for the bruisers. I've got a few of those "elephant guns" and to date they are working really well. Haven't seen an Elephant in weeks!!

Remington model 700 (and clones) One would have thought we would have had that out years ago. Other than a few manually made ones here and there, its not been in our lineup. My son Dan Larsson has been working with me for this past year. He is now able to program for the CNC and build the fixtures needed to make what he programs. He said, "Dad, give me the rifle with the prototype and I'll get it into production" Having him around is a game changer. Watch for more cool and fun stuff coming from the next generation. Not space guns, but those that are near and dear to us and what we would hang over the fireplace.

Mauser Mark X and Whitworth... I've had a 20" 375 H+H Whitworth in a high end synthetic stock hanging around for quite a while. Its a good Grizzly country kicking around rifle. I'd built a prototype peep for it back about 2010 or 11. Dan has them in production now, should be on the website in the next week or so.

Hunting: We did some antelope hunting with our 13 year old Grandson. I got an antelope but more than that, we are building wonderful relationships with our Grandkids. As my dad used to say, if we had known grandkids were this much fun, we would have skipped having kids and gone straight to the grandkids" I took him out on opening day of Deer season while his Dad was on top of a mtn looking for high country Mule Deer. Kid got a nice buck and he and I had a wonderful time chasing grouse, rabbits, stalking the mountainsides.

Family: Sheila is ready to go back to Africa... After the leopard hunt that about killed us... her due to the hours and lack of sleep, me from a near miss leopard charge, she wasn't sure she wanted to go back. As brutal as that time was, we wouldn't trade it for anything. Two amazing leopards that were cattle killers on the farms of Namibia. Mine killed a calf the morning of the day I killed him.

Where did November go?? We are half way through and yesterday it was September???

Wow --

thank you for the intro Andy , the old heads around here are probably very familiar with the goings on but after a few weeks of logging in and then being rebuked i almost gave up

As far as whats going on ?

Hunting season in Oklahoma but am sidelined with a torn acl -- the repair was successful but they also found my tibia was cracked at the same time and had to pin it (mountain bike accident ) --- so what i thought was going to be a basic knee scope and meniscus repair turned into a real rodeo
compounded with the shoulder surgery i had in February after a motocross get-off ---

So i am on the sidelines ---- thankfully i have some cool clients who are avid outdoorsmen and have promised me 20 lbs of sausages from their ventures afield

Outside of that its been pretty low key and peaceful (as peaceful as can be for a 53 y/o man who is still engaged in internet dating can be that is ) and i plink with my silenced .22 off my back porch most every day -- and when i dont do that ive been tinkering with airguns

Gun projects? --not a lot levergun related right now but am sourcing parts to convert an old Weatherby Vanguard (HOwa long action ) in .300 WBY mag into a precision rifle capable of standing up to the standard barrel Christenson arms stuff (and similar) --- does not have to be light, because who the heck wants to shoot a lightweght 300 mag of any flavor --- but researching optics , triggers and different stocks is fun for now and will be even more fun when it comes together
----- leveraging as much good will from the veterans discounts companies give to try to score a discount here and there -- anything helps when you're not workin

My life is much less exciting than yours, but it's November, so that means I'm at camp most of the month. Nothing beats being in the woods with my old 94 carbine and a Colt single action. Thanks again, and take care.

Rehabbing from shoulder surgery , getting back surgery this Thursday , hunting is out this year , next year will be better.
Still crawl with the grand kids , sore the next day , but worth every minute. Life is good.

About the same as others have written.
It been bow season here and I've been trying my best to get one of the many bucks on the farm. Since I haven't posted any pictures it's obvious I have yet to unleash a bolt. Tons of does but no bone.
Our bird season opened so my weekend mornings are out with my Parker 20 and Sage. This is her second season and she is a PRO now.
Found out back in September that my oldest, Claro has terminal cancer, vet said if she makes it a year it'll be surprising. She is almost 13, and as far as I'm concerned a guy couldn't of had a better hunting buddy.
Sage's mom, Parker has developed a chronic limp after an injury as a puppy so I'm not sure if she will hunt anymore.

I'm hoping to get my Henry 41 over to PA for the first day of deer season, it has yet to take an animal...

Speaking of 'sights' - my main 'gun' project is still getting more of the double-aperture pistol sights set up so I have the sight I prefer on a gun I prefer.

Not an easy thing when the dovetails are all different...

I got the fiber-optic front (unfortunately guessed the wrong height, so have to get a lower one - it will only be 0.07" taller than the original factory front sight, which was a fairly standard little nub labeled 0.180" in the parts diagram (1911 9mm double stack Rock Island). So any concerns one might have of the sights protruding too much or unnecessary, because the front sight doesn’t have to be unusually tall, and the rear sight certainly protrudes less than the red dots do.

I really like that the set up I have obstructs much less of the view than a red dot sight does (and I think I would feel the same way even if the red dot was not set up to co-witness with the factory iron sights).

This old guy is working three days a week in hopes of paying some surprise bills -- such as the electrician coming in at 200 percent of his estimate. Not sure my back and its multiple fusions can take it much longer.
Have a rolling block in .45-70 to get running. The cheesy tang sight included by Pedersoli is nearly useless and I got to wondering if Skinner would ever take on such a project, although there are already some fine vernier makers competing for a shrinking audience of BPCR shooters. Received a Lyman Postell mold recently, so I look forward to casting some nice, big slugs to to feed the roller with.
Youngest brother threatens to come down from Fort Collins with his young Brittany to hunt the Gambel's quail we have here. I better do some legwork just in case.
Planning to have Thanksgiving at the Pink Store in Puerto Palomas, just across the border from Columbus, NM. And yes, I will have one of their margaritas.

Thank you, Andy, for taking on the responsibility for running the forum. This morning it seems "snappy", compared to how it's been in the recent past.

So I'm here, holdin' the fort while me darling bride chaperones her folks around up north, taking care of necessary mission business. So I entertain myself by trying not to turn green while observing others hitting the autumn woods in the quest for game and memories. Meanwhile I cherish the memories of autumns past and the all too few days spent with a firearm or three in the chill hours of predawn light, crackling leaves, busy squirrels and all the other glories that go with the chase. Who knows? Mayhap one day I'll manage to be back north in the fall and once more see the dark shadows slowly melt into the beautiful forms of trees in their autumnal splendor.

As for projects, need to get that nitro-piston air rifle swapped over to a spring system for a friend.

In the meantime I drafted and filed an Amicus Brief with the US Supreme Court recently. I was honored to be asked to do it. Oral arguments will be in early December.

Geesh, sounds like a bunch of worn out, busted up old guys here. Well I'm right there with you. But I won't let it stop me. Slow me down a bit, maybe.

As to what's going on, quite a bit of Jeeping. My favorite places in the high desert aren't far away and while I admit I don't do a lot of hard core stuff anymore I love wandering around.

Shooting is mostly informal plinking and small game. Though I have been trapping quite a bit lately. And I don't even have to leave home.

We have urban coyote issues and they use the canyon behind me as a highway. The older song dogs are a challenge but this time of year the ones born earlier this year are out on their own.

you know , since im not doing hare scrambles, mountain biking or hunting this season, ---- your post reminds me that i can still do a little boon-docking. Have a 4wd Tacoma thats currently under-utilized, gas (here) is cheap and the weather here in Oklahoma is very favorable -- but this time of year can turn on a dime.

Might need to go do a little fly fishing if the trout are running
