Maybe the loose nut on the grip helps?

Post by JimT »

I was shooting some groups this morning with the .41 Magnum sixgiun, testing loads with Bullseye. It was doing fair. Then .. using my old standard load that I've used for 25 years, I shot these two groups in row.

After I shot the last group I noticed the cylinder pin retaining screw was loose. Checking over the gun I found all the gripframe/trigger guard screws were loose. Now I'm wondering if I tighten 'em up, am I gonna screw up the accuracy?

By all means tighten the screws before they start falling out!
Very nice group Jim.

A few months ago at a 22 rimfire benchrest match we were discussing checking your guard screws. One of the top shooters remarked he hadn't checked the screws on his Anschutz in quite a while so pulled out a screwdriver and they were VERY loose. And he'd been cleaning targets all along. And other shooters swear you have to use a torque wrench on the screws! Sounds screwy.

Very nice group Jim.
I used loctite on the gripframe screws. :D

I shot those using a rest. There was only 1/16" difference in the size of the 2 groups. I shot a group after those 2 using a two-hand hold. It was almost exactly an inch larger. I am not as steady as I was when I was a young man of 55.

With a good gun and good sights and being able to see them, sometimes I can do ok.

Those all help. Still, not everyone is good at everything. Go to a public gun range. You might see it all.

Those places are just plain scary! The police range can be bad enough!
