Rumor Glocks discontinued…

Post by AJMD429 »

.
There is a rumor going around Glock will discontinue their current models because of the availability of the full auto ‘Glock switch’.

If that’s so things might be interesting because the company is innovative and they might make something really good - or they might really screw it up…

If that happens ... and if they only produce the Generation V that does not have the backplate ... what will that do to prices on the earlier models that are floating around in the marketplace?

We seem to be living in the Chinese curse of "May you live in interesting times."

I have no desire to put a Glock switch in mine, because full auto in anything that's not belt fed seems to me silly, but there was a part of me that instantly felt like I should go by about 10 of them before the price goes up so I could resell them.

Two problems though. One is it runs against my nature to sell guns so I'd probably wind up keeping them which would be silly, and the other is that I would be spending money that I might eventually want to spend on the model V.

I won't do anything though because I really don't have a problem with the generation 3 Glocks, other than I don't find their grips very ergonomic.

I just hope they keep the setup where the striker isn't fully tensioned because that appears to be a weak link and some of the other striker fired guns that can lead to unintended discharge.

My G23 1st gen is bone stock other than a 3# connector and it's staying that way.
Im with you Doc, I'd never put a switch on mine as it's just silly to full auto something with such minimal capacity.

It's still against the law ( unless you are a class III) to produce full auto so instead of terminating a whole line of products how about cracking down on all the illegal switch installers. Let's make sure the offenders are sent to a federal penitentiary for a minimum sentence of oh let's say 20yrs and no chance of parole.
Of course that last statement is hogwash on my part because it will never happen, cops won't find them, judges won't prosecute to the full extent.

Looks like the rumors may be true.

Should be interesting.

My old ones suit me fine, but hopefully the new ones will be decent.

I have fired full auto while wearing Uncle Sam's issue salad suit. I have no need as a civilian to fire full auto. If the prosecutors would shut off the supply of Glock Switches, then things would calm down. It would seem that full auto in a 9mm G17 would be a waste of ammunition. I guess those who use them are just wanting to throw lead away.

Why is GLOCK discontinuing so many models?

In order to focus on the products that will drive future innovation and growth, we are making a strategic decision to reduce our current commercial portfolio. This streamlined approach allows us to concentrate on continuing to deliver the highest-quality and most relevant solutions for the market.

What does this mean for me as a customer?

You’ll still have access to the most popular GLOCK models you know and love—just with a more focused selection.

Will discontinued models still be supported?

Yes! Just like we do with previous generations. We will continue to service discontinued models.

Do these portfolio changes affect law enforcement agencies?

GLOCK remains fully committed to supporting the varying needs of our law enforcement partners. While IOP programs may be affected, GLOCK is prepared to work closely with LE partners to make sure officer and agency needs are met. For more questions, contact your LE District Manager.

Glad I have a Gen3 and Ruger RXM; soubt I'll invest in any other striker-fired pistols, because the ones I have are reliable and tough, and I mostly like hammer-fired pistols like 1911's and my Taurus 92 (Beretta's new 92 has a "1911 style safety" but they are triple the cost of the Taurus 92, and I can't really see paying that much more just to get a different name on the slide... Whatever can be said of other Taurus products, my Tracker 357 Revolver and PT-92 have run flawlessly.)
