Shooting 22 cal PELLETS in a 22 LR gun...

Anyhow - the little 14 to 17 grain pellets do amazing things when powered by nail-gun blanks

NOTE ...this is NOT recommended by the manufacturer, of course...)

Some did more damage to melons etc than 22 LR ammo did...!

I've thought about trying pellets in shotshells, though I haven't taken the time to do it as I'm sure it would be frustrating trying to stack them ! Probably work wonders on garden pests but not worth the effort!

Way back in the 20th Century, the national brands put out some truly awful pellets, uneven skirts and who knows what else was wrong with them. I hoarded the US origin pellets for "serious" use. There was one particular box of pellets, can't remember the brand nearly half a century later, that I started loading two or three into the old Daisy 880 with the hope that ONE of them MIGHT hit close to the intended target. Finally I grabbed a couple full brass 32 gauge shells and loaded those pellets up over a snifter of... probably Tupán brand "white powder". On a subsequent trip to a remote area one of those shells took a nice "pemba", but I don't recall the autopsy results as to how many pellets actually hit. In this case it was a case of ¨dump 'em in to get rid of 'em".

I used to have a thing (still do if I can find it somewhere) that was a 223 Rem cartridge modified to hold a shotgun primer, and the neck crimped down about 0.2" from the mouth so you could 'seat' a 22 caliber airgun pellet there, and shoot it out of anything you could singly load a 223 case in. I used it in a Contender pistol and it was pretty fun. Seemed more powerful than a 22 LR.

If I recall correctly, I mostly just dumped them in helter skelter. These were cup shaped with parallel (allegedly) sides. The second worst pellets I've ever had. The very worst are a tin of Colombian made with the semi-diabolo shape to them. They appear to have been formed with a pair of side cutters or...???? I keep them around to remind me - sometimes you CAN reach the point of being the worst ever. Kind of wish I had some of those from back in the 70's - for the opportunity to scrutinize them better than I had the knowledge to do back them. If I'd stacked them, they'd probably have done even better, although they might have ended up crushing together in columns and working like fletchets.

I used to muzzle-load pellets into a .22 Rifle when I ran out of ammo in the 60s with a starter gun blank. Better than a suppressor.
