Did S&W Blow it? w/ pics

Post by Ben_Rumson »

Got to wondering after the thread on the genesis of leverguns.. My reading has led to some interesting info.. Looks like S&W had it all figured out… Rimfire ammo patent in 1854 ( don’t know what caliber but I’d guess it was the 50 cal)… …Cast steel frame.. Toggle Link mechanism..tube feed.. Sold it and the machinery to make them to Volcanic in 1855 .. Don’t know what improvents B.T. Henry eventually made other than giving it a new caliber….

That's kind of what I was thinking. Volcanic went under, Henry did or would have if they hadn't been bought IIRC... :?

...Seems like S&W & Volcanic's main focus was handguns... Henry recognized the value of rifle part of the package handed to him .

Did anyone ever actually make a tube-loading handgun? It would seem like an interesting option.
