One of my instructors, a Brit, sent to Africa to work for Westley Richards and became a game ranger later on told us of a white farmer that watched baboons dismember his beloved Great Danes. The farmer declared war and killed every baboon he saw. They are vicious critters, lots of people kill them on sight.

They make the most hideous sounds -- screams like a woman being tortured -- and when they run some of them occasionally jump high in the air to look quickly for where the threat is. They were pretty shy out in the bush near Kamanjab in northern Namibia, but when we flew into Windhoek and our PH's wife picked us up at Hosea Kotako airport for the drive to the base camp near Otjiwarongo, they were scavenging for food scraps in the freeway median strip. I looked at my brother and said "Dave, we're not in Kansas anymore." I shot a very old one missing one of his canines and was surprised to see that they have fingerprints just like we do.

I saw a video of an african guy eating a Baboon head that had been roasted. He was holding it up with two hands and eating it like we do a turkey leg at the fair. It still had its eyeballs.

Years ago I was in Isreal at a truckstop called Animal House that had a baboon. One day I wasnt paying attention and got too close and the *** grabbed my arm, he was pulling me too him with his mouth wide open and determined to bite a chunk out of me as far as I could tell. I was able to get my foot up and brace myself and eventually got away but I sure had my doubt on the outcome at the time. I have heard a lot of Vietnam Vets complain about the monkeys in Vietnam being pest and attacking them as well.

I have always hated them...the only ones I ever saw in person were at the zoo. If they were in Ohio I would no doubt go broke reloading ammo . .
