Anyone ever hear of

Post by GunnyMack »

Walkers Winchester barrels ?
I just found them and they do reproduction 92/94/73 barrels. Period roll stamps as well.
Says they can do all the common bbl lengths .
I think my 92 25-20 deserves a new lease on life.
Thoughts?

Reply from them last night, say they can fit the barrel( take down) headspace etc for minimal cost. I figure why screw around trying to find a barrel vise on my end and let them do it all. Also said they have mag tubes if I want that changed too.

They also do colorcase hardening, restoration work as well.

Since I never heard back from Turnbull I'm inclined to use these guys as they show customer service is alive and well in Idaho.

Big thanks for the info!

I never heard back from Turnbull either about my grandfather's '92/ .44-40.
The finish isn't bad but the bore looks like a sewer pipe.

Same with this 25-20 Jason. Yes it shoots ok but it could be a lot better with more steel touching the bullets!

I dont want to spend thousands, a few hundred yes so I'm not looking to restore it, I can do that myself. Im not set up for barrel work.

Forget Turnbull, his prices are crazy. I've used Al Springer at Snowy Mountain Blue Gun Restoration for decades, and his work is as good and even better than Turnbull's and a whole lot cheaper too.

I actually found a guy 3 hours away, he makes his own liners, supposedly fairly fast turn around and VERY reasonable prices.

Dang, now that fellow may just get the ancient '73. Would love to have that old 38 WCF shooting good.

Howdy,
Well now I feel fortunate to live about 3 mile away from Walker Winchesters :D
I was talking to Sam a week ago about a Steven 940A 410 shotgun, my first from dad. He said that his reputation is spreading and his specialty was Winchester lever guns. Told me where to get the part for my 410 and it was an easy fix, would be cheaper that way than if he did the work. Also stated he was getting to be know for his bluing and color case hardening.

His work looks excellent for sure. I was also impressed that he actually returned my email within hours! But if I can drive my gun to the guy near Gettysburg, Bobby Hoyt , whose reputation is very well regarded here on the east coast I don't have to ship and we know how bad that can turn out!
