'Shipping Containers' anyone...?
.
Anyone here mess with these - they seem potentially useful for sheds or whatever. WIth the price of lumber and such (Just one 10 ft section of galvanized roofing is now $60 locally), it seems like one of these, even if it rusted-out after ten years, would be a sound investment.

I'd love to have a couple here! One along the garage to put my wood pellets in, another for over flow of miscellaneous stuff, one at the farm for targets, clay birds etc. They are great !

Pre=COVID, I purchased a 12x20 Amish Built Shed with the high roof and a loft. I picked it up as a REPO and only paid $4000 plus tax with free delivery. I honestly dont think you could touch that shed for less than $8000 now. IMO, the 8x40 High Cube Container would be an excellent bargain.

We have a 40-footer in AZ for storage, as I got rid of two houses (one East and one West). The one I got was still serviceable (water-tight) until I cut the vent into it. The price was $2500 delivered, and it cleaned out two temporary storage sites. The metal was rolled steel, much tougher than I expected, as it took 5 steel cutting blades to put the vent in. It has been in place for seven years with no animal entries or insects. When I get it cleaned out I will reinforce it and bury it on the hillside to use for an underground garage for the tractor and off-road vehicles.

The 20 footers around here are about $4500 nowadays
Re: 'Shipping Containers' anyone...?
I looked into these a year or two ago, the base price seems good but the devil is in the details, delivery and distance from the hub made them prohibitively expensive to me.
A few years back a neighbor asked how much to build them a shed, they had priced some pre-made ones. I said Id do it time and materials, with one guy helping and build a much better shed. The site still would have to be set up for a delivered one and anchored, as we get 100+mph winds. End result, built a much better shed, 6x6 posts set in concrete in the ground, at almost exactly the same price as the delivered one (about $5k at the time), and no additional site prep. They were happy.

I've thought about it, but they are fairly pricey and a pain to move. Also, if you live in an area with wide temperature swings, I would think condensation could be an issue.
I think I can throw up a pole barn at camp for less money and be better off.

Yeah - in Indiana my big concern would be condensation, although if you just wanted vermin-proof storage for 'barn' stuff it might be great.
Or using waterproof totes in it might mitigate the condensation issue.
We aren't too far from a 'hub' at least.

Re: 'Shipping Containers' anyone...?
I was thinking about getting one out here at the new place but I’ve decided to wait since I’m not going to be here for more than a couple more years. Once the remodeling is done and the interest rates are down I’m going to sell and move back up to the lake. I like the solitude and quiet but I need to be back by the water.
I can get one around here for $2000-2500 or so and have seen some really cool ideas that help cover up that it’s a big metal box.
Also thinking that pouring a 4-5 inch concrete pad would help keeping the floor from rusting out.
