Making peace with the 9mm

I've never been a big fan of the 9, coming from the 1911 tradition. But Smith's improved E-series CSX won me over. I had the earlier version that had some warts. This one seems to have cured them all.
Hammer fired, aluminum frame and steel slide, single action, can be safely carried cocked and locked, safety swipes down as God and John Browning intended and the ergonomics really work for my hand. Will shoot it tomorrow with FMJ, defensive ammo and a CCI snake load or two. If it shoots like the Gen 1 CSX, it will be "it" -- the last EDC I'll ever need.

Since the Holiday (where we had a really good snubby seminar) I’ve been daily carrying a J frame Smith in .32 H&R. I strap on a SAA for the weekend but I’m still carrying the .32.

While I realize that I might have to turn in my man card, I’m really enjoying the convenience.

Yes, I have a few 9mm guns in the safe.

HA! Got ya beat Scott! For the last month I have been carrying a Bearcat Shopkeeper .22 nearly every day. I was glad I had it when my grandsons caught this Texas Rat Snake in the chicken coop. Had 3 of our eggs in it! The Shopkeeper kept shop! I have killed 11 raccoons and a feral cat so far.

I really wanted to like the CSX, but it turned out to be too small for my paws to manipulate easily. A friend has one that he's fond of as his walking the dog gun.

As much as I like serious pistols the current grab and go casual battery consists of e J frame 38, LCP22 and a Wrangler!

Bill, you got my interest when you said no polymer parts. I sold off the only polymer 9mm I had just because it just irritated me to have plastic parts beyond grips. I now only own all metal semiautos, and they also happen to only have wood grips too. And of course mine are all S&W also. I feel so much better strapping on a metal frame, wood gripped semiauto, even if a couple are 9mm handguns.

Vall, the CSX would be spectacular with wood grips, but I must confess the plastic inserts are extremely practical as well as comfortable.

Didnt know they (S&W) made a small 1911 format pistol

I have experience with the Sig 238 and 938 by proxy, and would love to add a Colt Mustang to the inventory if i come across one at a time that coincides with me having some walking around money
Great little guns and i would be happy to retire my Glock 42 or pay it forward to someone else who needs it if i get one

Something about the 9mm I just cant take to. Nothing wrong with it provided GOOD bullets are used.
However it still doesn't start with a .4

We fight those things constantly in the chicken house around here! But I figured out how to save ammunition, I taught the dog to kill 'em, and he makes VERY short work of them!

When my Dad lived the on the Spear S Ranch north of Phoenix near New River the cats would kill rattlers.

Your dog is killing rattlesnakes?

Full disclosure, he did NOT kill that rattlesnake. It was in our backyard last Saturday and at the behest of my wife I dispatched it before the dog found it. He then proceeded to do his "death sling" with it. I have plenty of videos of him killing Texas Rat snakes, but videos are a pain to post.

That makes sense. The manager for Oliver Lee State Park south of Alamogordo lives in the ranger's residence in the snake-infested area south of the main park, and she finally lost her big old buddy after he was struck in the face for about the fifth time. Vet said it was just too much for his system.

My one and only 9mm in a Ruger 1911 SR9, light weight, shoots everything it gets fed, has never failed, not once. Best Ruger I've ever had. It's also very accurate. Safe to say it's my favorite 1911 after my old Colt 1991A1.
