Levergun loading options

Post by jeepnik »

The fellow with the 9410 loading issues got me to wondering. Has anyone ever made a lever gun that bottom loaded like shotguns? If not, why?

Now the old Remington m14 pumps (of which I am a fan) bottom feed and include a slick little "step" on the loading gate that holds the cartridge in place while loading without need of the thumb.

Part of this equation revolves around how well the loading gate works. When operating correctly. they arent difficult to load. 73 and 83 in particular are easy to load, 92 a bit easier than 94s, but 94s load slick when the parts arent rough, as, unfortunately, so many post 64 guns are. They can be helped with a little TLC as mentioned in the 410 thread, none of the common not loading the shell in all the way isnt required when they work right.
