My car went to the junkyard

Post by El Chivo »

Finally saying goodbye to my car of 31 years, my Volvo 740 died for the fourth time and I finally gave it up for parts.

It took me all around California, hunting, camping, etc. I once drove it to the top of the Los Padres and it made it fine.

Old Savage even rode in it once. I'm hoping someone will revitalize it as a drift racer, that model is considered a great drift car.

It's silly I know, but I'm sentimental about vehicles. Our Suburban lasted from 1995, carrying ourselves, four kids, some grandparents, and the occasional goat or two, all over the place, until it just wasn't practical to repair in 2015. The best offer we got was the scrapyard offer, but I had a friend who knew I was sentimental about that vehicle, so he kindly offered to buy it "and fix it up for someone who would appreciate it - maybe one of his grandkids", for the same price the scrapyard offered.

I took him up on it, so at least in my mind that Old Faithful vehicle is still happily going places with some other family.... :D

I too am sentimental about vehicles. It's why my '55 Chevy still sits in the barn along with a '91 Camaro. I took one of my 1st girlfriends to the prom in that '55, and the Camaro was a gift to SWMBO when I could no longer rely on the brakes on her station wagon. The '55 is in perfect order, even if the last time it was on the street was just over 6 years ago... gas drained except for about a gallon to start up every couple of weeks, and refreshed periodically. The Camaro needs a new engine... or its old one rebuilt. I've been saving it for a retirement project. ...After my Ford tractor which is in the garage, already underway.
