When is "shipped" really shipped?

Post by Bill in Oregon »

Man, I am getting really tired of this business of being emailed that, "Congratulations! Your item has shipped!" when in fact all the sender did was create the label. I think Potterfield at Midway started this fabrication. I don't consider an item shipped until it is in the hands of the shipper and no longer in my possession.
OK. Rant over and time for graham crackers and milk ...

I feel your pain wilhelm. This A.I. business is annoying and it is only going to get worse to intolerable.

And then there is all of the hacker/grifter flummery with almost every order. How does some creep in bangladesh instantly know when I order from basspro/cabela's ? I seldom order without getting an email or a text with a pdf link claiming there is a problem with the order. They can seem convincing but so far my peter parker spider sense has prevented me from clicking the links. Those of my acquaintance who have clicked have had all sorts of "been hacked" griefs up to and including bank funds siphoned.

Yes, I believe when Midway started that new NITRO EXPRESS shipping is when that label created to the actual time it leaves the warehouse. And use that irritates me also!

Gosh darn it fellars! Don't ya know they do that to minimize their "inventory" tax burden. If they claim it's "shipped", it's no longer in their inventory, and they don't owe tax on it! Surely you can understand a "for-profit" enterprise trying to do everything in its' power to increase profits... and a good way to do that is to lessen one's tax burden. While some businesses only do that on "tax" day, if the computer system does that EVERY day, then there's no additional labor cost to do that only at the end of each quarter... or whenever their "tax" day is. Again lowering costs and increasing profits. As far as that hacker from wherever is concerned... he/she/they obviously don't believe in Karma... but I DO...

Yes, I get the "your item is shipped" notice. Then the next day "your item is at the shipper". Then maybe a day or two later a notice from USPS or UPS "we have your item". And the day after "Tracking is available". Really? Do I really need more than "tracking is available"? The rest is fluff to appease me so I'm not angry about the delay before it actually started moving!

And on this topic sort of. I sent a sight from Oregon to North Dakota in 3 days. Seller sent the check 3 days before I sent the sight, and it took 11 days for an envelope to go from ND to Oregon? It's a darn letter; how can USPS mess that up?

Yeah, I got my "Your item has shipped" email back on 8/4. Then they picked it up in New Mexico and let me know I'd have it from 8/7 to 8/11. Then it went to Chicago, and Chicago, and Chicago. Now I'm getting an email that it's going to be late. I'm in Florida. Of course it's going to be late. It keeps trying to get out of Chicago but then keeps going right back again. Thank you USPS ... you're a model of competence. Maybe it's taking a stroll along the shores of lake Michigan looking to commit a crime before it heads down to sunny Florida.

Yeah, I was told my item shipped Monday. It was finally in UPS possession this afternoon. Why the fiction?

Heck, I bet we have a bunch of retires SF guys and I know a few Marines that could deal with the problem. Just use the governments resources to track them down and send a team of old guys out to solve the problem.

Folks will cry that the death penalty doesn't prevent crime. But name one person who committed a crime after they were executed.
