Hello neighbors,
I have been shooting my new Henry X in 357 magnum. I like it a lot. It's got me thinking about a Henry lever gun in 30-30. Do any of you guys have one? And how are they in the accuracy department?
Thanks in advance for your time.

My 41 mag is quite accurate, though I haven't tried it for groups at 100...

I tried out my father in laws case color 45-70 with the Hornady LeverEvolution 325gr load, me not being terribly used to the rifle + a fairy heavy trigger, I was able to put 3 shots into an Inch at 100 yards (leopold 2-7x scope). Certainly sold me on the accuracy potential!
Re: Henry 30-30 accuracy?
I had the same setup with my Marlin and shot the same sub 1" groups with leverevolution ammo. Great ammo for accuracy but had mixed results on elk with it. Under 50 yard it plain did not work well. Switching to Core-Lokts this year.weiler wrote: ↑Wed Aug 06, 2025 6:37 am I tried out my father in laws case color 45-70 with the Hornady LeverEvolution 325gr load, me not being terribly used to the rifle + a fairy heavy trigger, I was able to put 3 shots into an Inch at 100 yards (leopold 2-7x scope). I've used the leverevolution 30-30 and its shoots really tight. Henrys are great rifles...just gotta find what it likes to eat.

Re: Henry 30-30 accuracy?
I can offer some relative information. My wife had one of the Henry's in 30-30 and she sold it to her brother. I sighted it in for her and also for her brother when he bought it. It was very consistent with all the loads we tried in it and I felt it was more accurate than the Marlin 336 that I usually shoot. I consider my Marlin 336 as one of the more accurate 30-30's I have---it's an older Marlin made in the 70's with the short magazine tube, I don't remember the model.

What kind of sights were you guys using...?jkbrea wrote: ↑Wed Aug 06, 2025 10:47 amI had the same setup with my Marlin and shot the same sub 1" groups with leverevolution ammo. I find that unless I use a fairly high-power scope, at my age, I won't SEE the target well enough to actually HIT it, so I wind up putting 'inappropriate' scopes on leverguns if I want accuracy from them. The cool thing though, is that for about a third of leverguns, you can get really good (under 3" groups at 100 yards) accuracy. Not 'benchrest' by any means, but sure good enough that if I miss, it's ME not the gun at fault.

I have a 2-7x on my 41. I never grouped it at 100 but it was easy enough to hit steel plates at 100. So it's minute of Bambi and more that capable of shooting them in the 'oranges'

I like the Weaver 1-3x for my Marlins, I don't think that's cheating. One thing about aperture sights is it has to be a sunny day or the target just fades away due to low light. I like the Weaver's set on 1.5x, very natural and quick to bring to bear.AJMD429 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 07, 2025 11:00 am

Still no scopes on Winchesters though.
