Inexpensive plates that I’m really liking
I found these on EBay and I have been shooting on them at extended ranges to work on my pistol shooting skills.
They ring when hit so they are really useful. You don’t have to look for hits, you get immediate sound feedback.

.
I really like 'shooting steel' for that reason - no spotting scope needed. Kind of like shooting Tannerite out at 500 yards or so, but less expensive.
Challenge Targets has some of those that make a distinctly different 'tone' when you hit the vitals vs the rest, or the 'bad guy' vs the 'hostage'.
Not cheap by any means, but seems like a cool idea too.

I think the feedback from the sound is helpful.

I’m having a good time hitting that 8 inch plate at 50 yards with a .22 but it’s really challenging with a .44 or .45.

I was really bad when I was growing up. My favorite reactive target then, and now, was/is glass bottles. Very satisfying to see them explode. Not exactly environmentally safe. The old fence posts by the railroad tracks where we would shoot ended up with piles of broken glass knee deep around each!

I suppose in some places glass bottles would work. But people tend to shoot them in water. Then someone would go swimming and get cut. So long ago the rule was and always will be no glass bottles.
