Help finding Marlin 1881 parts

I snagged an 1881 in 45-70 a few months ago and if I can remember back that far, it needs a new lifter spring. I took it to my smith and he can't find the part or parts needed. Wondering if anyone here has any secret connections in that department. I assume he has tried all the usual places. He used to work for Jack First. Thanks.
