Fishing

Post by jkbrea »

I fish alot from spring to fall. I'm blessed to live in Wyoming where there are unlimited places to fish. Recently I came across a great deal on a drift boat. My friend, who is a fishing guide, has been helping me learn to use it on the Snake River. It's much harder than it looks! Getting it positioned right for whoever is fishing and slowing it down is exhausting....but fun. So is just floating and sightseeing wildlife. I've seen dozens of bald eagles and Ospreys pulling trout out of the water.
I've always fish with spinning rods but recently tried fly fishing. That was really fun.

Beautiful. Your Clackacraft is a well-regarded drift boat back in my native Oregon, along with Alumaweld and Willyboat.
And you are right, rowing a drift boat pointed downstream against the current is not intuitive!

Wonderful pictures, jkbrea! I wish I were there....that looks so inviting.

My late older sister and brother-in-law had a Grand Canyon dory that I imagine was a bit larger and heavier than a drift boat but certainly similar in concept. Do you go back upstream to your put-in spot or do you need someone downstream to pick you up? Is paddle power the only propulsion method?

Thanks for the pictures!

Usually whoever I go with will leave his car at the launch and follow me to my pullout spot. It's actually a big businees out here. They charge $40-$75 to shuttle your truck and trailer to your pull out spot! Kids used to do it for 10-20. Now its a 6 figure a year gig.One stretch of the Snake River charges $5 to park your vehicle in the boat launch pking lot..... everyone has a hand out..

This is most interesting. The river looks pristine and inviting.

I like to wade fish small streams here in the deep south and a diabetic foot condition has prevented me from wading in the past two weeks so my own personal memories and y.t. videos and now your excellent photos are a comfort to me.

I have a bluegill and a stumpknocker and a longear in the aquarium that needs to be returned to their original home or a deeper/wider new home but I have to wait until the foot gets better.

You get a chance, please include some fishing and fish catch stories and photos.

nice looking stretch of river jk! is that National Forest?
learning to "read" the water and knowing when to really pull on the oars takes time to master.
keep it up

Yes. It a stretch between Hoback Junction and Alpine, WY. I did take it to Yellowstone and floated Jackson Dam to Pacific Creek. Thats an easy float and was beautiful! You could see the Teton Mountains and lots of wildlife.
