Rare Speer and Winchester .348 bullets

Post by big bear »

Looking for something and uncovered some rare bullets at the back of the top shelf.

Save them ?(for what/whom?)

or try and sell them as collector's items?

6 boxes Speer 220gr bullets
1 box Winchester 150gr bullets

I have lots of Hornady and Barnes bullets , so no real pressure to load/shoot them......but if not me then who? if not now then when?

This seems the best place to ask because this is where I caught levergun itis several years ago, darn you all :D

GunBroker perhaps. Or put them in the classifieds here. There are probably more 348 shooters here than are browsing on GB.

I didn't realize Speer made a 220 at one point. I assume the 150's are the Winchester "Silver Tips". The closest thing I currently have is the Cutting Edge 157's but I've not had time to workup a load for them yet.

I might be interested in purchasing them depending on what your asking.

Please post some info on them 220's

Also might be interesting sharing the lot w someone else and not hog them all.

I think I'm going to shoot some of the Speer bullets and ponder about the Winchester 150gr bullets. I will try and post some pics. Selling and shipping any to the U.S is not worth the paperwork/legal hassle entailed. Sorry.

Tried the Wnchester 150 factory loads and found them to be a waste of time in my rifle . There was a reason they dropped them long before cutting back to the 200 grain load only. I'm betting you will like the Speer bullets though .

Didn't realize you weren't in the US.

I have never had any 150 GN 348 bullet group well in my 71, results were always dismal. May just have been my rifle though, who knows.

The factory 150 loads didn't stay on the market that long . I'm thinking nobody's rifle shot them very well.

I found an ol Speer loading manual with loads for the 220 bullet. There is a YouTube video (North 61)where that bullet is compared to several other brands of 348 bullets(penetration, expansion, expansion) and it performed surprisingly well compared to Hornady and Barnes bullets. When I finish all my "must do" jobs I will loa some up and try and post some pictures.
