When Dad, a WWII combat vet, was an undergrad in the Oregon State College Forestry School --1946-1950-- the students had a radio show, and this was the song that opened the show. I know. History no one gives a rat's butt about, but it is important to me.

Re: Sons of the Pioneers
they did so much music for so many movies . They did movies with Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Tex Ritter, did some of the shows of Hop Along Cassody.
They also did movies where they sang the theme song, they did so much.
Is kinda sad a lot of folks today don't even know who they were.
At one time Roy Rogers was a member. So was Festus on Gunsmoke.

Yessir. A lot of folks have no idea that Festus -- Ken Curtis -- had a wonderful voice. There's a scene in my favorite John Wayne movie, "The Searchers," where he gets to show his stuff.

Robert Ellsworth Patrick Aloysius Brady
Original stage name Bob O'Brady. Listed his agent as next of kin during his military service.
Fast forward to about 16.19 to see Pat being interviewed

Re: Sons of the Pioneers
Growin' up in SoCal in the 1960's I guess I was an anomaly, as the Sons of the Pioneers were sometimes at Knott's Berry Farm and I enjoyed listening and watching them more than the "Rock Stars" that so enamored most teenagers of the day. As were Dale & Roy Rogers... As a teenager, I didn't really "get" country music, but those two acts were always favorites.
Editing to add: Saturday I was at a shoot outside Bowie, TX and was reminiscing with another shooter about the first annual Roundup cowboy action shoot I helped organize for the club I helped start in 1991, (Thanksgiving weekend). I was running around making sure everything went right and at our awards banquet (held at Billy Bob's Texas), in Fort Worth, I was equally absorbed in the minutiae of that aspect of the event. Anyway, this, now a long time friend, asked me if I remembered who the band was that played that night at Billy Bob's. All I could remember, is that as the club's secretary, I picked up the slack from our "do-nothing" President and "know-nothing" VP that I don't think I even noticed there was a band beyond the background music. I was surprised to learn these many years later that it was Books & Dunn. I was probably told that when organizing the catered banquet with the club's management, but it wasn't a major draw for me... it was all about showing our guests from out of town a grand time and cap a wonderful weekend.

Re: Sons of the Pioneers
Ray, I saw Roy, Dale, Trigger, Pat and Nellie Belle on stage in Portland in 1959 -- Oregon's centennial year. Dad let me wear my two cap guns and cowboy hat to the show. Happiest 6-year-old in the history of the world.
