Ruger 96 is a tack driver

Post by t.r. »

Common hollow tip ammo typically average 2.5 inches groups at 100 yards. Not bad for a 44 MAG. But Lever evolution ammo is truly outstanding in my carbine! TR

I may try a box... that's great. My 96/44 is one of my favorite deer guns.

Is the LeveRevolution brass shorter than normal for 44 Mag..?
(I bought a box of 444 Marlin and was bummed in that the brass was shorter so going to be weird to reload.)

I've got a 92/22 Mag, and swapped out the barrel for to make myself a 96/17 HMR, and sure enough it is also a 'tack driver' so no surprise the 44 Mag is too - Ruger builds good guns.

I missed the boat on the 96/44! The prices are crazy now.I should've bought one to go with my Deerstalker carbine.
Only time in my life I dropped a brand new scope into rings, tightened it down and it was dead nuts at 50 yards! Shot a 1hole 3 shot group.
I should have bought one each of the 96s, 77 series guns too.

Great shooting. The LeverRevolution shoots well out of all my leverguns.

i gave my son one of these and then i got another for my own use.

i also have the 96/22, the 96/22WMR. and the 96/17HMR. all of them are outstanding shooters. i bought all these years ago when they were available and not very expensive. but holy cow they are worth a lot now !!
