I ordered a shift lever that's an inch longer than stock and has a pivoting tip, also a set of 30mm bar risers and speaking of noisy, a foam pad that goes between the engine and skid plate to reduce the sound of the engine reflecting back off the aluminum skid plate.

I have an IMS on my TW, but I did raise it on the splines a notch. I did the same thing with my DRZ this week.
Yes there is a lot of noise with the skid plate. I never noticed it with my old XR, but the exhaust was quite loud.
That's some of why I tried an Acerbis plastic one on the DRZ. I really like it so far.
The engine is still fairly noisy, but it's my first experience with the DRZ. I know some guys say they are anyway. It only has 1700 miles.

Had to dash into town today and buy a BD card and was surprised by the large number of big touring bikes I saw, Northumberland being one of the less populated counties means the roads are quiet except for Newcastle which is a nightmare. I love seeing so many bikers but unfortunately the area is also popular with cyclists .

That's all you see here too. Its ridiculous. Stupid baggers. It's one thing when you are riding all over the country, or are gone for weeks at a time. My parents did that for years on an 87 Yamaha Venture and a 92 Honda SE Gold Wing. But 90% of the people you see with baggers (especially Harleys) aren't riding them 2k miles a year. They go for an hour ride on Sunday afternoon and think they need a rolling couch. I don't care what anyone rides, per se, but I just get so sick of seeing everyone with the same bike.
I like to feel like I'm riding an actual motorcycle. If you don't want any wind on you, and need a thousand electronic googaws, maybe you don't really want a motorcycle.

I've been locked out of the forum again hit and miss whether I can log on or not.

Growing up way back in sixties Britain you could either be a suit wearing Beatles fan and ride a scooter or wear black leather listen to rock n roll and ride a motorbike. I was lucky to grow up in a street were everyone rode motorbikes Scooter riders were known as Mods while motorbike riders were known as Rockers, fights between Mods and Rockers were very common back then especially on bank holidays on the coast. I guess we were all posers back then

Been a nice couple of days here. Got in some good riding on Memorial Day. Trails were a little crowded. Especially the old track bed up to Bingham.
Yesterday I was pretty busy. The oldest boy and his wife are in Japan, so I went over and mowed his lawn. Went to camp for a bit with dad. Mostly to check the road. It's mostly dry, but punky in one spot. First time i drove the Jeep in this year.
Then I ran down to my middle son's place to help him make a new set of rollway doors. Got home after 7 last night.

Just got back from my second trip to Oklahoma City in two weeks. My wife stayed and helped our daughter out with her new baby over that period of time so I brought her back home yesterday. She would fly but there are no direct flights between Albuquerque and OKC so the time to travel is about the same one way or the other. I'm glad to have her back home; I'm glad to be back to re-establish the normal routine.

It was pretty stormy in Oklahoma as well as in the Dallas/Ft Worth area while I was there visiting our son. We had tornado warnings a couple of nights in Texas and in fact the range at which our son shoots PRS matches was heavily damaged Saturday before last, the evening after we were there.

Cool pic! My youngest son is a shooter too. Not so much these days, as he has 3 young kids. He shot IDPA and did pretty good. He still shoots, but doesn't compete anymore.

Been meaning to ask how you are liking your TW? I'm going to take a day and do some trail riding with mine soon. I've ridden all my life and I know I shouldn't really like this little bike, but it's really fun. In truth, I'd probably sell my DRZ before I'd let my TW go.

Jay, I haven't really had a chance to take the TW into the mountains yet. Last week when I was alone at home I was really eager to ride my favorite trails in the mountains so I invited a couple of friends to go along on ATVs. Honestly I would rather ride the TW alone rather than dissimilar vehicle types so I'll wait for other opportunities. We did have a nice ATV ride though. We rode over 35 miles on some pretty rough trails and the dust was typically heavy. Not for me though cuz I always ride in the lead .

Great pictures Walt! Haha yeah I hear that. It's impossible to mix vehicles like that. A good ride is a good ride though. I ate my share of dust Monday. A bike is so much faster on a trail than those infernal side by sides.

On the other hand I finally snagged a Colt SAA 32-20 4 and 3/4” first gen made in 1901….perfect bore…1.5” at 25.

I've always coveted a 32-20 SAA. I would love to have a bird's head short barreled version. That right there is a crazy nice gun for 124 years old.

I got my first Italian SAA last year ... 3-3/4" bird's head in 45 LC. A high primer hung up my first shooting session. Apparently, I should have gone through that new Starline brass more carefully. Three of 100 had too shallow pockets.

Some day I will get an original Colt in 32-20. It's on the list next to a Smith 16-4 6" in 32 H&R Mag. Which is next to a Win 88 in 284. Which is right after a Ruger No.1 in Swift. Does it ever end?

No, no one offended me and I have nothing against anyone. It’s that I’m smart to know when my words mean nothing, whether they are goofy (expected) or something that took me 50 years to learn. Your words probably meant a lot more than you realized - just many of us aren't very good at showing appreciation.

It was kinda fun teasing you about Rossi's though - however anyone with any sense who handles the 'classics' of Colt, S&W, Winchester, Marlin, and the high-falutin' stuff like the Ballards and so on, or even the first half of the 20th Century war-guns, has to see that there was a level of design and craftsmanship there that probably will never again happen, for a variety of reasons. Our 'generation' grew up in the best position to appreciate some of those guns - back when they were new (and not unusual) nobody had enough money to 'collect' them - they might be lucky enough to own the one they needed most for their livelihood. People growing up in the future are not likely to have the opportunities we have had to see and handle the good stuff, even if they are lucky enough to have the baby-boomer incomes we had to enable us to collect stuff.

'Moving on' is a thing people do - and good luck etc., but personally I hate change (I remember the first time a new dawn-to-dusk light was visible from the house I grew up in - over a mile away - and it shook my world). I'd prefer it if all my friends and neighbors never moved or died...or even just got the itch to move to another gun forum... but they do, and that's life. Farm down the road I used to go fishing at is now a subdivision, and one of my favorite neighbors passed away last year. Enjoy every day with those you can enjoy them with.

Come back sometime if ya want. I'll not likely go on the Colt forum - my only Colt is a beat-up 1911), and the ones I'd actually want are things like in your photo, which are more years away in the budget than I may have ahead of me (not near-death that I know of but still paying off a big chunk of debt from a failed 'group practice'). This is the twelfth weekend in a row of rain. Weather during the week has been beautiful. Sometimes this shift works out.
I was busy all week but don't know what I did. Holy smokes I hate when that happens. My parents new deck is finally finished. Looks really nice. It all that high falutin Trex stuff, with aluminum railings. Should last a while. The old one was there since 1980.

My MIL is doing really well. She is staying with my SIL, and will most likely stay there for good. She should have been out of her old house years ago, but was too stubborn to listen. I get it....I will be the same way.

Not much to report other than I just watched a 1970 movie starring Dan Blocker and Jack Elam. It's a comedy western very family friendly humor but I found it funny, must be getting old anyway if anyone is bored the movie is called " The Cockeyed Cowboys of Calico County.

My gas ram Norica air rifle needs a heart transplant or whatever you do with gas rams, the power is really down so until I can get it fixed I'm hoping to buy a Remington .22 air rifle called The Pest Controller..
It just an inexpensive springer but it is as powerful as the government allows over here before it gets classed as a firearm

Man! I just got back from a 92 mile ride with the DRZ. I didn't leave until after 2 and it's now 5:30. I stopped once long enough to top off my fuel in Bingham. Only had maybe 10 miles of pavement out of the whole thing. That was a pretty fast paced ride. Weather was beautiful. Nice riding, but I'll probably feel it tomorrow.
I don't think that was too bad for an old man. Plus, I still fit in my old riding gear from 30 years ago.

I did order some new gear today, however.

Thanks Walt, it was a good ride. It was pretty dry actually. Few wet spots, but it's surprising dry for all the rain we've had.
I have the bike pretty well dialed in I think. After my last ride I backed the compression damping off 3 clicks front and rear. I think it's close. I don't thrash like I did when I was 25.
To be honest, the previous owner should stick to his Harley. From the way this bike was set up, he'll kill himself on that Husky FE501. I don't see how he could ride.
It did have Kenda Trackmasters front and rear, so that works. The guy weighed about 230 and had those lowering links and still the stock preload. It was a mess. I put the stock links back and had to crank the preload up about 3/4 of an inch. I weigh 195. It's working well now and handles pretty good. He had a Uni-filter in it, so that was good. I cleaned it and pulled the airbox snorkel. He still had the stock jetting, so I put in a JD jet kit. I also got rid of the pair valve and swapped out the vacuum petcock for a standard one.
The controls were out of whack for me, so I adjusted those to my liking. It did have nice 2 finger levers and Tusk bark busters. It also had a rear rack. I ordered a Nelson Rigg tail bag for it today. I have the stock 44 tooth rear sprocket back on, but kept the 14 tooth front he had on. I may try the stock 15 just to see. He had 14/47 on it when I bought it. It was great for the woods, but a little short legged for the roads.

I'm sure I'm not done.

Well, what a friggen day! Didn't even take any cool pictures. We cranked up the Jolly Green Giant and dad drove it to camp with our buddy's double axle trailer. I took the Gladiator with the small trailer and the mower. Along with the weed Wacker, chainsaw, and a bunch of other stuff. Figured we'd take the tractor down back and pull out a bunch of those pines so we can make a little field behind the camp. Then I'd mow the yard and the roadsides. Then we'd haul the tractor home.
The first problem was it took me over an hour to get the tractor started. Good thing I brought cables. Think I have a bad ground. Then I went down back and pulled out one pine, but it's still too soft, so I figured I better wait before I made a mess. We left the big Dodge and the trailer up by the road cause it still has soft spots. I drove the tractor up and got it loaded, then walked back to camp.
Then I started the mower and started in with that. Got the yard done and then started on the half mile of road. I'd had some issues with it throwing the deck belt when you disengaged the blades. I worked on it yesterday and found a blade guide that looked out of position. I fixed that, fixed the brakes, and sharpened the blades. She was in a high state of tune and worked great. Anyway....I had most of the mowing all done, but I was way up by the road and figured I was low on gas. Just a little left but I'd get some gas, check on dad, and finish up. I disengaged the blades and guess what? I drove back and loaded it on the trailer. I wasn't messing with that at camp.
We figured we'd head for home and drove out to the other truck by the road. I thought I'd take the weed whacker and trim around the gate. I started it up, made one swipe, and the whole trimmer head went flying out through the bushes. Miraculously, i found it, but not the sprung that keeps tension on it. Done.
Guess I was lucky to get home alive. Figured I'd wash the DRZ. Maybe that would be safe.......

Well I didn't do much today! First, it was too hot! Second, our granddaughter was here with us so we just chased a 2yo around all day.

Oh! And my new riding gear came. Along with my Enduro tailbag. I did mount that up. It's super nice and I think I will like it.

Anyway I am pleased with so far it's well balanced and the none automatic safety is a bonus.

I was a daily airgun user when I was young. Living in town, it was the only (legal) option for my cronies and I. It was like the wild west around here, and the signs are still visible almost 50 years later. My dad keeps the flame alive these days with my son's old Gamo. He has sniper hides constructed upstairs in their house and has shot over a thousand squirrels. I should have bought him a better rifle, but that thing has held up amazingly. I keep thinking I should get one myself.
Let us know how it shoots. Also what pellets you use. I'm always interested in airguns. I still have all mine from over the years.

A friend of mine, long gone, had a Sheridan pump .20 caliber pellet gun. We used to load small pistol primers in it and they made a pretty good pop when they hit something hard.

I only have a few pellet guns nowadays and my primary shooting is at paper targets in a bullet trap in my garage. I have several Beemans, a Daisy 717 pistol and a Feiwerkbau side lever pistol. That inexpensive Daisy shoots surprisingly well.

I'm in the process of rebuilding a Hatsan Striker 1000X - but using a spring instead of the ram. Waiting on the owner turning out a spring guide as he's got a lathe and I don't. I'd pull your Norica apart and do some measurements of the internals. Over in the UK there's a lot of folk that work on air guns, I could introduce you to a couple of back water forums where folks get a kick out of projects like that. Not the well known clique forums, but exiles therefrom.

Nice looking rifle. Looks like it's got the "generic Gamo trigger", can´t recall the chinese equivalent designation off the top of my head. Anyway, if it needs slicked up you can google some hacks on improving the trigger on those. How's it running power wise? It's always fun to run in a new springer.

When I was a kid, a friend of mine had one of those Sheridans too. It was a quality piece, and a good shooter as I recall. I never owned one myself. Mostly just Crossmans and Daisy's. But I sure shot a lot of squirrels and pigeons. I shot a partridge or two with them also.
We used to shoot Ohio Blue Tips out of our .17 rifles. They would make a loud pop when they hit something hard.

I haven't put a hundred slugs through the Remington air rifle yet and I'm using some cheap Bisley pest control pellets 18.2 grains just for the running in period. I intend to get some lighter RWS Hobby pellets 11.9 grains for more serious work, Paul you are correct the Remington is a XS19 .
I have for most of my airgun shooting preferred .177 over the .22 but this new rifle in .22 is for short range pest on my bird feeders, mainly Jackdaws. It has already dropped a Wood pigeon DRT so I'm happy with the power and hopefully the accuracy will improve, I haven't tinkered with the trigger yet I have only given it a spot of oil. I have given my old .177 Norica to my daughter in law as she has recently shown an interest in shooting it is still quite accurate just down on power, it regularly took Squirrels at 30+ yds.
Having been more or less forced to use sub 12fp airguns by our restrictive gun laws I do not have the same feelings for them as I do for "proper" firearms but they do serve a purpose and serve it well.

Back in the late 70s I got some Beeman pellets. Had to order them, as nobody around here carried stuff like that. They were pointed, and shot fantastic out of my old Crossman 760. Killed many a pigeon with that combination.

Like all guns airguns can be persnickety in their choice of ammo, when you find out what they like it's best to stick with it. I have just tried some Milbro TR at about 14.4 that my son had, it seems to like them but l want to try even lighter pellets for more velocity.

Haha I bet he does! Nothing better than bringing home some meat. Many don't care for deer meat, but I absolutely love it.
Nothing fancy. Good ole cast iron fry pan, couple pieces of bacon in there, some mushrooms, few onions, little garlic salt, and some small steaks. Boil up some fiddleheads and a nice pile of homefries.

That's living large around here.
