Double checking. Can .22 WRF be safely fired in a .22 Magnum?
Seems to fit the chambers perfectly.

I've fired both Winchester and CCI 22 WRF in my Smith & Wesson 648 without issues. Seems to work fine and I can tell you that WRF is quite a bit less booming than WMR in these revolvers.
... I love poetry, long walks on the beach, and poking dead things with a stick.

I have shot them in my Single Six as well as in the Ruger American rifle with no issues. They are hard enough to get that you could probably trade them for Magnums to someone who has a WRF. Unless you just want some lower power loads.

I have shot WRF in my 883 Marlin but they will not feed from mag tube.
Original .22 WRF specs .226" grooves with .219" bore
CCI WRF are jacketed and true WRF at. 2265"
Winchester lubaloy are copper plated lead. They are .2245"-.225"
If those remember my Colt .22 WRF Police Positive has 5 stuck bullets they were Jacketed slugs assuming CCI.
The Colt barrels of time period were actually same as .22 LR with same bore. Just too tight for jacketed bullets.
Bullets of the period were soft lead only so no problems.
But I've been shooting Winchester Lubaloy copper plate and do to it being smaller and soft enough they work fine.
Should note WRF has larger case and rim than WMR but is shorter OAL.
They are near finger press fit in my Marlin chamber when clean.

Someone gave me a box of 250 or so of these and I don’t know of anyone with a WRF. There been sitting on my shelf for years.
I’ve been thinking about using them in my little Smith snubby for the pocket pistol class at the Holiday.

For a long time WRF was expensive to shoot . Now .22 WMR is that way . Good news is I saw WMR as cheap as $16 last month.
CCI JHP is wonderful in the 1890 or Remington model 12 WRF rifles.
I probably would not shoot it in any handgun per their warnings.
But as stated Winchester lubaloy copper plated is perfectly fine in WMR sixgun or rifle. Bullets are plenty soft and worked fine even in my tight bore Police Positive .

JimT gave me a couple boxes of 22 WRF along with a mix of 22 WMR of diverse brands/weights/etc back in the early days of the 21st Century. Have used it a bit in my OMSS and my Paco Pifle (Savage 22 bolt pistol that I received at my first Shootist Holiday via a blessed number in the raffle). Still have quite a few as I keep hoping I'll run up against a 22 WRF rifle or pistol that will join the clan and so they get hoarded in hope.
But they've given complete satisfaction when used so far.

WRF works fine in the WMR cylinder of my '68 Single-Six Convertible and in my 9422M Trapper--both the Winchester and CCI, with no problems whatsoever. Those are my only Magnum chamberings, so for my applications, there's no compatibility issue at all. As other folks on the forum sometimes remind us though, Your Mileage May Vary.
