The "Leverguns Community" forum....
.
...is so much MORE than just a place for those of us weird enough to like what most would call obsolete, mediocre, guns that aren't as accurate as bolt-actions, nor as fast as semiautos.
As with Tycer's recent post that still brings tears to my eyes, many of us here (who mostly have never been in the same room with one another, nor even talked on the phone) share some pretty deep parts of our lives, from triumph to heartbreak, from big homestead projects to catfish recipes, and. . . the occasional post that has something to do with leverguns.
It truly is a special place - in an impersonal and sterile electronic world of 'AI' and 'bots', we managed to carve out a little niche for some humanity.
It is a pleasure and privilege to be a member here.

Re: The "Leverguns Community" forum....
Back when I originally registered the domain, that's what I had in mind. Paco and JimT signed off on letting me resurrect the old forum that was hosted on the sixgunner.com site before it went belly up. It's been quite a ride since then. I'm thankful to Andy and David for what they do to keep it going, as well as gamekeeper and the other moderation staff that work in the background doing the dirty jobs that keep the trash to a minimum.AJMD429 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 04, 2025 8:32 am .

Re: The "Leverguns Community" forum....
This place is my longtime favorite, and I've stated that to others on other sites plenty times! I don't remember when I first found it, gotta guess early 2000's. But I didn't join for a lotta years, but was always reading up all along, because back then I was just getting serious about deer hunting & it's rifles. Found plenty of help when needed, and it was always good advice! I could brag lot more honestly, but no need. I don't post much anymore, mainly cause I don't like reading my own, sure don't expect anyone else too!
But there's lot the old timers I remember here that's seldom around much, this I miss! See I learned early on in my greenhorn mining days, be swift to hear slow to speak, and you'll live longer! Them old time coal miners taught me the old way, experience by hands on, and Thank Lord daily for mistakes that didn't get me killed!
But when I start spinning a yarn about my favorite subjects, rifles, I go all out, can't help it, but I say what I believe! Them old miners payed no attention to talk, unless there was iron found in the man first, then they could count on words of iron from him! Most time anyways!
But I've noticed recently everyone missing Sixgun? Rightfully so, he knows from experience A Lot, and I sure listened when he spoke on these subjects! Same for Jim T, he's a wealth of experienced knowledge, and honest as day is long! Well there's plenty more here, but I ain't going start a list!
Myself, here lately I've been going to the Bolt Actions & Scopes for most part, my eyes are a dwindling with irons, my all time favorite way to shoot & hunt! Iron sighted squirrel rifles are my lifelong passion, but I've gotten more into deer hunting in past 25 years.
But when you'll start talking 86's, 71's and their cartridges, this is THE PLACE TO BE! All the old leverguns actually, but these are the ones that stir my interest!
I even traded my 1st deer rifle recently, a Marlin 336 30-30, that I got in 81, for a Rem 700 30-06 ADL, but no regrets, I'm loving this rifle, it truly was the rifle I wanted most from as early as my HS days, but never bought because I just didn't deer hunt.
But this place I hope keeps on going, I do read often, appreciate the content! The Simplicity!
Oh, can't leave out my favorite subject of the past 25 years, most any of the 30-30, but especially Mod 94, and my favorites by far, Mod 64's, the most elegant of all rifles of any cartridge IMO!

Couldn't agree more. I belong to a couple forums but rarely post. This place is unique, and kind of like an old timey gunshop where folks hang out and talk guns and everything else. I've been here since 2009 and still consider myself a newcomer.

This is the only forum I spend my time on, used to be on Rimfire central, 16 gauge society and Shotgun World but the spread of topics and sound advice here is second to none.

Re: The "Leverguns Community" forum....
Off the top of my head, I can't remember how many forums I have joined. Probably 30 over the years searching for 44-40 data. It all started back in 2005ish when the got some basic computer skills and started searching the internet after I got invlved with SASS and even joined their forum at some point...maybe 2007 under a different account than what I use now. Aside...eventually I started with these forums;
2007-July MarlinOwners (44-40 sub-forum)
2008-June The High Road
2008-July CasCity
2009-March Cast Bullets
2009- ShootersForum Banned (the one with the blue powder coated bullets cover photo)
2009-March Cast Boolites Banned
2010-Dec The Firearms Forum
2011-Jan Leverguns
That's right, I said maybe 30 forums...could be more. Some forums I joined and maybe made one post or two as late as 2025.
I was banned from the Shooters forum because I posted a lot about the 44-40 H.V. factory cartridges and my tests. After some 12 years, all of a sudden I got in trouble because I posted data without any references....but then was not allowed to post OUTSIDE references links, and the old posts were an invalid justification....including links to the 44-40 website (that was their reason ).
I was banned from Cast Boolites because of the classifieds issue. My weakness? I despise BS...When I am backed into a corner,,,,and get poked and prodded, I come out fighting...and fighting hard, fast and brutal! The Forum God's just hit the B button. Life is too short to cater to BS.
Early on I ran across John Kort, aka w44wcf and w30wcf, pending which forum he was on. I kept running into him while "searching" for 44-40 information. Every time a good search hit was made, there was John!!! I basically followed him from one forum to another. John Kort and Ed Harris are my cornerstones with what I have done with the 44-40 website.
I am on a lot of forums to simply gather data, but my favorite forums I hope to call home, for down to earth discussions is Leverguns and the Marlin 44-40 subforum.

I feel at home in this place. It’s the only place where I come every day. It’s also the only place that I have joined and posted under my real name.
Thank you for everyone who makes this work.

I think that one of the reasons that led to the gathering of the type of personalities we have here is the fact that in the firearms world, 'leverguns' are the classic example of practical, 'down-to-earth' firearms that also have an extra amount of 'Americana' in them. They aren't necessarily the 'best' at any specific task - even the most accurate ones aren't as accurate as the most accurate bolt actions, and even the handiest and fastest-shooting ones aren't as handy or fast as an AR-15 or other semiauto carbine. Whatever chambering your most powerful levergun is in, get the same chambering in a Ruger No1, and you can load it twice as hot. But......leverguns are just kinda good.....at everything...! People don't own them for showing off or out-doing one another, and if you ask a question on here about leverguns, you seldom get someone trying to 'impress' with how fancy their gun is, or how much more they know than you do - you just get a real-world answer.
Not to bash the other forums, but so often when I research a topic or ask a question on a forum for bolt action or semiauto firearms, the dudes who have to prove themselves come out of the woodwork, and although sometimes they do indeed have the answer, you have to be careful that you're not just dealing with some keyboard-warrior type who knows very little.
Same when it comes to tangential non-levergun, or even non-gun issues - I feel like I can ask about anything from the best way to hang drywall to the best way to patch a tire here, and probably get a better answer than I would on a 'drywall' forum or 'tire' forum.
When you add the dimension that on our admittedly small forum, many of us have shared deeply personal events in our lives, and I think gotten great support from others here.
Although we'd miss out on being able to vicariously enjoy a wide variety of climate and terrain from one another, it would be so cool if we all lived in the same area and could physically visit one another and joine one another for cookout, fishing the local ponds, or some levergun shootin'.

Re: The "Leverguns Community" forum....
This forum holds a very special place in my heart. I have been a member for a very long time, and although I don't post very often I do visit several times a day. In 2018 I lost just about everything I owned in the devastating Carr Fire here in Shasta County, California. I did manage to save most of my gun collection, but all my ammo and reloading equipment and supplies were lost. The members here, headed by Old No7, got together and sent me a $1,000 gift card that went a long way to help my wife & I get back on our feet. Member jnyork sent me an RCBS Lube-A-Matic bullet sizer that I still use regularly, and other members also sent items to help get me set up to reload again. I made several posts about all this at the time, and I'm sure those who are curious could do a search and read those old threads.
In the years since, I have tried to repay this generosity by helping other members when they were in need. It may have been some brass or some bullets, or just some advice, but I will never forget the kindness shown to me and I will always strive to return that kindness.

Re: The "Leverguns Community" forum....
I'm a relatively light user compared to some. Four firearms forums. This one and Rugerforum are my most often used. The other two are read for comedy relief, THR and AR15. And two radio forums. I have a few others that I visit from time to time, but I'm not registered.
Been banned from a few, Marlinowners (heck most here have probably been banned for not drinking the 444 Koolaid), and a tacomaworld (again, I seriously disagreed with the party line).
