Does anyone have any experience with a Ruger No. 3 .44 Magnum

The only No.3s that I have owned were .45-70 and quite a handful.

Too soon to tell you Scott, but my traveling partner bought that exact same Ruger at the CGCA show recently, and is making up ammo for it and a Ruger Super Blackhawk he bought just a week previous to the Ruger. Once he's got it shooting I'll let you know. I think it's likely a very mild cartridge in a #3 Ruger, even with peppy loads.

Now that would be a really handy rig! I wasn't aware Ruger did the #3 in 44 mag.

Not a #3, or 44Mag, but 86er did some testing of Buffalo Bore 45Colt +P in my Miroku 1885. What his conclusions were are unpublished as far as I know. I mostly use it for my side match "Plainsman" rifle. But did work up some ~1200fps hunting loads using 5744 & CFE. They're a little less formidable in the Rossi Short Rifle with its heavy full octagon bbl than the much lighter 1885 w/its ½rnd/oct. bbl, even tho it's 4" longer. I'm sure the crescent buttplate on either doesn't help. Even tho I think either rifle is safe with the Ruger only loads, I'm not so sure about my shoulder

Not a 44 mag but I've got one in 375 wcf and my most used load is a cast 245 over 10 grains Unique ( sound familiar?). It's a fun little rifle.

Years ago in my "load em as hot as I dare" days I had a #3 in .375 Win which at least at the time, struck me as an uncomfortable gun to shoot. I took it to a gun show and swapped it for a model 94 Big Bore in the same caliber. I much prefer the Winchester.

My parts box produced a new Skinner sight to fit this rifle.

That looks slick, I've got the NECG peep on mine but it requires a riser block for the standard front sight.

Let us know how it shoots.

I think the spacing is right so that I can mount this rear sight where it is now or I can move it forward to the next set of holes if the front sight is not tall enough.

Look forward to seeing your results on the range. I would think a gas-checked hard-cast 325 over a bunch of H-110 might be very useful.

I owned a nice Ruger No. 3 in 45-70 for a while. It had a nice trigger and was in great condition but I don't remember ever shooting it. A 45-70 in a light rifle like that must be a kicker.

I’ve owned a couple of these rifles in.45-70 and they were no fun to shoot.
