Actually, Heritage Arms is making them for the CMP. I was surprised.
Dad always said great things about the M-1, although as the squad sniper he was issued a 1903 Springfield with the Lyman scope in WWII.

Nice to see the iconic M1 getting a new lease on life!
A buddy of mines Dad took his to Quebec one year for a moose hunt. If I'm not mistaken he killed a bull.

Re: CMP making new Garands!
My FIL owned a Christmas Tree farm in Ohio when my wife and I were engaged. She used to work it during every spring break in high school and college. We decided to come down one spring to "camp" there in his camper, with another couple. Both the guys were looking forward to shooting.
So, we hadn't been there 1/2 an hour, just enjoying lunch in the shade, when my FIL says "look, a whistle-pig"!
Now, I had never heard the term so looked up the hill where he was pointing and saw a large groundhog. He asked me if I had anything that could hit it, and I said yes, but I had not fired it in a very long time and wasn't sure the sights were on. He said to give it a try, so I pulled father's M1 Garand out of the trunk.
He made a long whistle and said "why that's a Garand!!!" He should know; he carried one in the Korean War.
Well, my shot was low about 6 inches, and I didn't get a second. We never saw the "whistle-pig" again!

Re: CMP making new Garands!
I purchased a M1 Garand through CMP several years back. The first thing I learned was they are expensive to shoot. It is way too much fun to blast through the 8 rounds for that ICONIC PING at the end. Fortunately, I received a very desirable Serial # Range made in DEC of 41. When I decided to sell, I tripled my money.
I am not certain I would get into a modern M1, the vintage factor as well as the fact of wondering what battles it might have seen.

.
I saw a restored Garand someone had from Fulton Armory - https://www.fulton-armory.com/M1-Garand.aspx - he'd sent in his 'beater' (don't worry it wasn't a 'desirable' maker or serial number') and they pretty much rebuilt it from the ground up with new everything.
It reminded me of the M1A's with their beautiful finish and beefy but beautiful walnut stocks. I remember thinking it would make a nice 'set' to have both....
I have a Garand that was terribly inaccurate - and a friend rebarreled it and put national match sights on it, but it is butt-ugly; when I told him I might refinish it, he had a fit - "don't you dare refinish that stock - I glass-bedded it and it is sub-MOA now, but if you mess with it it will ruin everything...! " So it is my ugly-but-accurate gun now.
