OT wood turning

Post by GunnyMack »

So the past couple days I've been cutting dead trees. One of which was a Dogwood. The butt end was big enough to toss on the lathe. So I made a vase.
Hopefully it will attach, 13sec video

Just wax for finish.

Beautiful. One of the things I like most about wood are nature's perfections. And like the fellow said, the vase was always there. You just removed the excess.

Sweet piece, Will. In the Northwest, Pacific dogwood gets to be that diameter, but it is nearly white, with little grain. I liked having some around.

Normally the dogwoods here are either small and spindly or have multiple trunks that are spindly. This tree was tall and straight and rather large. Sadly I had to trim it when I had the roof done and it never recovered. I always thought it was a 'white wood' like you said Bill, until I cut it up and saw some color.
