Absolutely! The original is still the best! Unless you have a long trip on the highway ahead.
My old 59 wasn't much better in that regard. I still find the TJ the best balance of Jeep originality and drivability on modern roads.

Drove those in the Army/National Guard. We did go on long convoys. One problem was drivers trusted them too much and flipped a couple. We also had 3/4 tons and 2 1/2 tons, one of those flipped, killed two guys and sent another 10 to the hospital.

My brother had a 59 CJ-5 years ago. I remember pulling a 2 horse trailer the 180 miles from the Silver City area to Albuquerque in the middle 60s. The weight of the two horses and trailer was like the tail wagging the dog. We made it but it was dangerous as heck. What a nightmare! Not something that little jeep was made for.
