"Better Than a Watch!" (Last day at work -- EVER!!!)

Post by Old No7 »

Well my friends, after 43 years of working in industry for 5 different companies...

I am done -- TODAY in 1/2 an hour -- no way am I staying until 5 o'clock!

My boss had me fly out to meet him, and the new guy and one other colleague, the other day so I could formally hand off all my accounts and files. We could have done it by Teams, yes, but it was great to see the guys in person. Then at dinner that night, instead of the 4 of us being there -- 12 other sales colleagues showed up. Sure, they were in town for a trade show, but they could have stayed back at the hotel or stayed over on the other side of town. But instead, I got a really nice send-off from my boss and 15 others, accompanied by some great BBQ and adult beverages.

You'all know what I was drinking!

Anyway, after they said some kind words, I got presented with the bottle below. It's my favorite "Jack" -- but the box is priceless!

"Better than a watch!"

Gonna open that bottle tonight! Cheers!

That's cool...

A friend from Pharmacy School disliked his job enough that on his last day he went out in the parking lot and hung his white pharmacist's coat on a hook off the bed of his pickup truck, gathered for a 'tailgate' party with a few friends, and.....set his white coat on fire...

As far as myself, I'm not to the 're-tired' part - just the 'very-tired' part... :D

Congratulations to you! I'm nothing but jealous.
Here's to a long and happy retirement sir.

I have 2.5 years left. Been with the same company for 37 years. I'm READY.

Been retired for nine years. Haven't had a single day of rest, relaxation, or fun since. Good luck!

Congratulations!
Now are you going to have just one shot from that bottle and one every May 1st until it runs dry?
You should take some pictures, write your story and send it to Jack Daniel's- maybe they will send you a barrel full or do a limited edition in your honor!
I've got at least 10 to go...

That's so cool! Enjoy it...and retirement! When I retired from L.E. I got a few bottles of bourbon as gifts. (How did they know). One was JD "White Rabbit" and another was JD Distillers Choice I think. I gave them to my son and said we'll open one at my Granddaughter's wedding and the other at my Grandson's. Dangit...they were only toddlers then. Just gotta stay alive about 15 more years or so.....😄

Enjoy it... I'm semi-retired... and beginning to think that by staying driving is putting my actual retirement farther away!

Congratulations! That's a great retirement gift. All I got was a lousy rocking chair, although a former student gave me a bottle of his favorite bourbon.

Congratulations!

I worked for the SAME company for 43 years. The company changed names numerous times, same people, just different company names. I've been retired for 6 years. I was really worried about quitting work; having been in the sales business with mostly the same customers for that length of time, I knew I would miss the social aspects more than anything. I suppose I thought my former customers would forget me pretty quickly but the few times I've stopped in to see my old customers/friends I'm always greeted warmly, "Hey Walt!".

I'm so busy in retirement, I have no idea how I was able to find the time to accomplish anything while I was working.

Congrats!

I'm coming up on 18 years of bliss this September and have loved every minute of it. Don't think of yourself as 'retired' but rather starting a new career; 'A gentleman at leisure'. Take the wife and do all those things you didn't have the time to do when you were chained to a desk.

For me and my bride of 52 years, we love travel and so the morning after I 'punched out' we were on our way driving to Canada. Now we've been to all 50 states and 83 countries and when someone asks, "Which trip was your favorite?" I always answer with, "The next one."
