I guess I'm glad to see some pushback when ANY church goes all soft and starts advocating for socialist government... It is one thing for the Church(es) to take on Vice, and address Social issues, but they should NOT usurp government's role over Crime, and Civil Rights. 'Compassion' is for the Church - but not the government.

We'll see which direction the church will go with the election of the new pope (writing this as I am sitting watching the funeral of Pope Francis). As a cradle Catholic, I have more than a few opinions on this
. I'm hoping we shift back to conservative, biblically-based principles. I'm really hoping we hold firm on cultural things, strongly call out sin, and root out all the remnants of the abusers once and for all. I'd like to see Cardinal Robert Sarah elected as the new pope. My fear is that since most of the Cardinals were put in place by Pope Francis, we'll get a similar pontiff, and not the strong leadership we need. When the Church tries to accommodate "modern sensitivities", it is really encouraging sin.

My wife is Catholic. I was raised Episcopalian (catholic light). We attended the local Catholic services.
Hoping the pendulum will swing back to a more central location is wishful thinking. The church has greater swings than a coo coo clock on steroids. Always has.
