Thank you. I wish I could take a better photo of the walnut. It’s really nice.

Re: This is a handy little trapper
Very nice Scott. The 45 is probably a little lighter than the 30-30 because of the bore but other than that, the dimensions look similar.
I agree, a very nice saddle rifle.

Congrats. Nice carbine. I'm intrigued by the rear sight. How it adjusts, is the brass distracting from the rear, etc.?

Re: This is a handy little trapper
It’s a Skinner sight and I have them on a number of Marlins. Fully adjustable and you never see the brass while lookin through the rear sight.
Re: This is a handy little trapper
I know John Taffin was a big fan of large bore short leverguns. His books show a fair number of carbines that he cut down to 16 to 18".
I have a Winchester Trapper in .30-30 like Jim T's with the same rear sight. It is a handy little gun. I hope you enjoy yours.

Re: This is a handy little trapper
The proof is in the shooting.
Hopefully this weekend I will have some idea of how it performs on the range.
Initial reports from other Shootists indicate that it will feed the 270SAA bullet just fine.

No complaints about how your new carbine !
I think the 8.0 of 231 is the winner.

I’m pretty happy Jim. Barrel was not fouled at all as far as I could tell. Seems like it feeds anything I shoot with no trouble at all.

Re: This is a handy little trapper
Scott, the more I look at that little Trapper, I'm more than a little tempted to take the Cowboy45Special modified carrier out of my 17" Project Marlin and go back to 45 Colt. But I still kinda like the idea of having the option to use either cartridge. But, I still haven't had the metal finished on my Project 1894 I posted about. I last worked on it around 2013, and sorta lost interest. (Actually, I got tired of taking it apart and putting it back together to get the carrier to work with the C45S & 45 Colt). I did get the hole for the saddle ring stud welded up, but still haven't sent it off to a refinisher. Seems like everytime I get around to thinkin' about it... something else needs the money thrown at it instead.
