30-30 Ammo Bandolier
Who's the go-to for 30-30 ammo bandolier.
Leather is nice but water gets to it.
Plenty of times I seen ammo stored in leather loops getting all corroded from the brass sucking water from the leather.
I'm wondering if there's something out there for links like a mch gun belt, that fits 30-30........
Be nice to have a bandolier of 100 rounds or something to throw over the shoulder if you had to "run out quick"

Re: 30-30 Ammo Bandolier
I mostly use 38 cal cartridge belts, they commonly hold about 25 rds. they are often a bit loose for 38s, they become about perfect 30-30 belts at that point. Sometimes a little encouragement is needed, like leather treatment, ot a mix of rubbing alcoholand water sprayed on and helps stretch it, and letting it dry.
The corrosion is from acids used in tanning in the leather, they affect the brass differently. Ive been treating my loops with a couple different things, Blackrock, and Skidmores, I use a q tip to smoodge in into the inside of the loops. I take the rounds out and wipe them off with a rag or paper towel now and then, and use a plastic bore brush to gently clean the green verdigris grunge from inside the loops and belt. Some say you cant store rounds in the belts, most of mine have had cartridges in then as long as ive owned them, some going back into the 80s others being nearly brand new and only 25 or 30 years old.
You can get nickel brass for 30-30, they work great for use in belts, they dont get cruddy, and I have a slightly rough chamber in the shorty 94, the nickel is harder and cases dont start sticking as soon when shooting it. Midway has the nickel stuff, Remington used to, which is what I have.
Other than a belt of shells handy I use a beaded deerskin bag with some more shells, and keep a few boxes in the truck most of the time. I like having a few round ball extra-light loads and a few cast 115 gr 32-20 level loads in the belt besides normal ones. The rusky ppsh drum mag pouches work well for shell bags for loose rounds, boxed ammo or whatever, in the spirit of the old school british shell bags for game hunting with shotguns. I found a couple with nice color, no extra doodads on them, and a decent shoulder strap.

I use M1 Garand clips, 8 of '06 type or 5 belted mags. They are quite, easy to stash and carry. Not sure how well rimmed cartridges would work though.
As for a bandoliero, I'd stay away from anything with elastic. O³(ozone) seems to destroy the elastic .

Good idea Gunny! I have M1 clips.
I use 6.5x55 stripper clips. Holds 5 rounds flat so they go in any pocket or clip pouch. Works slick.

Stripper clips are great for .473 " bases, I stumbled onto the M1 clips for my 338 WM years ago. Granted if ya pull one round out they all come out but they don't rattle around in your pocket!

Re: 30-30 Ammo Bandolier
Haha thats what got me looking for something. My dad is hard of hearing, and I could always hear him coming from the shells rattling in his pocket. I kept telling him, but HE couldn't hear it so he figured the deer couldn't either.

I have a cartridge blet that holds 43 rounds of my .40-90SBN for the Sharps. I got mine thru Shiloh, who shows out of stock, but Buffalo Arms shows a similar belt. Although made to hold cases based on the .45-70, mine will keep .30-30 in, tho' I think the one made for Buffalo Arms in the .40 cal might be even better than mine. Although... a "Lever Action Speed Loader" would be better than a belt or bandoleer.

I have a couple of the Buffalo Arms canvas belts. Good stuff and I've had my .45-70 for at least ten years, probably longer.

I also have a canvas cartridge belt from Buffalo Arms that's excellent quality for .45-70, but I just looked there and don't see anything for .30-30, or other cartridges that would work for .30-30 cases.

Such bandoliers were very popular among Mexican bandits and freedom fighters. Can’t say I’ve seen anyone wearing a bandolier in over 40 years. That involved a photo shoot with John Bianchi.
Might need to make this a new fashion statement.

Seeing how popular the .30-30 was during the Mexican Revolution, something like this would've come in handy. Probably would be popular on the border today, depending on what you were expecting to run into.

Vegetable tanned leather will not corrode brass the way chrome tanned leather will. It's more expensive to tan that way which is why the other is more prevalent.
So, you could have a bandoleer made but with vegetable tanned leather and it would resist verdigris. Also, nickel plated cases will resist to some degree but it won't resist chrome tanned leather for ever.

As long as you don't apply mink oil, neets foot oil , saddle soap or any other kind of animal fat. It is animal fat that reacts with brass causing verdigris also known as grave mold.LeverGunner wrote: ↑Mon Apr 21, 2025 4:42 pm Vegetable tanned leather will not corrode brass the way chrome tanned leather will. I've never heard that, but I haven't use those thing much. I use paste wax for protection. I have waxed the inside of my cartridge pouches and it helps a while to stave off verdigris when the pouch is made from chrome tanned leather.765x53 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 22, 2025 12:36 pmAs long as you don't apply mink oil, neets foot oil , saddle soap or any other kind of animal fat.
