But I’ve never actually used it.

I have never used one either. But those who do say they work really well.

The one I have has a copper looking barrel and instead of grooves on each end ,it has dimples.

I have one but it came in an envelope, not that nice box!, lol
It works well, I just use the flat nose rod, actually it's a concave flat, puts a nice meplate on a round nosed 22. I never used the nasty nose rod which makes a hollow point, never felt the need. I also never bothered to see if it made the round more accurate, the idea is the tool bumps up the diameter a smidge to better fit the barrel, whatever it was bored too, you need a gentle touch not to flatten them too much or they'll sometimes hang up in a semiauto.. I have a lot of 22 target rounds left from my father who used them for competition, it works slick on them and gives a better thump on misc night critters.

I got one with two pins, one created a cup point, the other pin created the “Nasty Nose” HP. As I recall one end sized bullets to .223 flip it over to size OD to .224.
Fantastic little tool, I have boxes of ready sized HP and cup point cartridges in both configurations. The nasty nose is Extremely effective on small game up to (largest I’ve shot with them) a huge boar raccoon the stumbled off and fell off the roofline.

I may take some time to play with this while we are in Arkansas this weekend.

I use my "nasty nose" on CCI Stingers and load them into my model 18 for rattlesnakes. It is sighted in for three to five yards using a .410 hull as a target. My model 17 is carried for game and is sighted in for 25 yards. I use the cup point or flat point to bump them up a little to fit the bore. Makes them very accurate or did when I could still see.
