3030 fox.

Post by Nath »

I only went to look for a rabbit with a spitzer on a pinch of unique when a fox came trotting along 60yds away.

I managed to get the rifle off my shoulder and on the target undetected and the moment it stopped I slowly squeezed the trigger.

I knew by it's reaction it was shot but it ran over the hill.
Jess got straight on it though and picked up a scent trail.

It wasn't long and Jess was given voice. I listened to determine by her voice whether it was dead or alive.
It was dead so I set off the retrieve. It had covered 100 yards before giving up.
Jess was really pleased with her part of it all.

Very nice, thank you for sharing.

Thanks for sharing that too. There is still a bit of money to be made from pelts here.

Nice shootin' there Nath. Do you load 2 rounds, one in the chamber, and one in the magazine? I used to own a 340 Savage bolt action 30/30 rifle, and had fun loading spitzers. I recall I had to reload 125 grain spitzers, as anything heavier was too long to fit in the box magazine. That was 40 years ago, so my memory could be off.

No Ji, themselves too long and hang up.
It a single shot with them.
The ogives tend to be too long on them fancy turn bolt rifles.
In this day and age a bolt action in 3030 would make a refreshing change!
