I've a wee bit of Irish in me thanks to a great-great-great-great grandfather who married an Irish Quaker from Ballymoney, County Antrim.

we few were hiding out in or around the very South West corners for some number of years or generations. on the lam perhaps refugees from red coats, stripped of blades and pipes i suppose. some eager fellow caught a ship to the newer world. we don't have that piece of the puzzle. yet.

we guess that some of the missing connections on this side are due to the propensity for troops to burn down court houses and other document repositories, war of independence, war of 1812, uncivil war, etc.

Alas, I got left out of the irishness.....

Was always told we were predominantly Irish with just a bit of German and Muskogee and Plantation Child. The story goes that my great grandmother was said to be of the all too common but rarely acknowledged tri-racial mix and when she was made a widow at a young age with five little ones her in-laws shunned her and refused basic charity due to her "colour". Her eldest, my granddad, viewed in profile, looked just like the Indian on the nickels (with regulation shorter hair, of course).

Well one of "us" was perusing the unwanted junk at a yard sale and bought an unbroken sealed $100 dna kit for a dollar ! He (# 1 son) followed the instructions and sent it in. My contribution as parent 2 ciphered to.....

That's it ! Hopelessly caucasian now in the delta-blues string picking sense but otherwise enjoying my new-found white privilege ! Just somewhat sad at the lack of irishness.....

try ebay . . . besides, those dna tests don't record every connection, and the viking connection itself implies other branches, as well as brits, scots, welsh, etc. such maps aren't cheap to acquire. and truly we all connected to Mr. Noah, and therefore we are ALL RELATED TO EACH OTHER at some point.

I'm 75% Scots-Irish according to my DNA. Probably doesn't surprise many here!
