It never made it to 12° yesterday so it was a bit nippy, however, this is Colorado and this weekend they're forecasting sunny and in the mid to high 60s.
I go to the CGCA show in Denver, Co. Springs, and now Greeley every year, and it can be a dicey drive in mid May some years! On several occasions the highways were closed, and alternative routes that were open were just as snowy! One trip about 5-6 years ago they closed the highway near Rawlings, Wy. just as we approached that exit! We had to make a 8 hour detour up through Casper, Wy. and the show was closed for setup by the time we got there that night. Had to setup quickly the next morning and still had some snow around Denver.COSteve wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 11:46 amOne of the benefits of living in Colorado is the deep blue skies. With low humidity, the blue in the sky shows through and as I live at 6,100 asl, there is less atmosphere between us and outer space causing the blue sky to be a deeper blue than at sea level. If you doubt it, next time you're on an airplane look up out the window. The sky is a much deeper blue than at sea level.marlinman93 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 11:25 am But the skies have been the most gorgeous clear blue you could ever hope for!
However, with advantages there are always counterbalancing disadvantages as well.
Chuckle now but we'll talk to you in August when it's 119°!
I will not be here, I spend the summers in Lander WY. Makes me chuckle plenty.
Good questions... I suppose one could give the anti-freeze a try... Wheel heaters(?). Can't say as I've ever heard of such. If I had found them frozen as I got rolling, I'd usually just beat on the drum to knock the shoes loose. Usually takes a coupla good whacks with a hammer and they release. I usually turn slightly in both directions as I leave a place where I suspect I may have frozen drums to view whether my trailer tires are actually rolling, which I did in this case. And yes, all newer vehicles are required to have air dryers. And, I have purge valves on all four of my air tanks, but at those temps, any moisture in the tanks is frozen and won't purge, either at the tank or dryer. I suspect while they worked on my air dryer the cold air condensed in the the small ¼" line that acts as a signal line from the dryer to the governor on the air compressor to disconnect the compressor as design air pressure is present.Grizz wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2025 1:24 pm Griff, [ ] question coming,
would it do any good to squirt antifreeze onto the shoes at night, if that's even possible? Or is there such a thing as a wheel heater? And driers in the air lines?
I know it's probably good for laughs in the RA, but might be cheaper than the alternative . . .
curiously,
Thanks Griff, I am a student of the "don't force it, get a bigger hammer" school of welding, I understand that. If I operated my boats in those temperatures icing up and rolling over and sinking were the WX challenges I tried to avoid . .Griff wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2025 1:01 pmGood questions...
