The map of foreign military bases in the US left out the German Air Force Tactical Training Center at Alamagordo. It could be they are no longer there. I believe they started in the 1990's. It was still there the last time a drove through a few year ago.

Jim, the Luftwaffe left Holloman AFB several years back. I moved to Alamo the year after the last big Oktoberfest.

Foreign pilot training on the then hottest tactical fighter, the Phantom, was done along side US pilots at George AFB up until it was closed. When I was there we had German, Iranian, Israeli, Turkish, Japanese and others I am likely forgetting training alongside US pilots.

One requirement for flight training in the US was to be fluent in English. This worked well during normal flight operations. But sometimes during emergencies pilots would revert to their native language.

One very hot afternoon I spent several hours straddling the nose of an F-4 talking to a German pilot. His seat had malfunctioned and the drogue gun in his chute had fired pulling the drogue chute through the closed canopy.

After a bit he did calm down and his English returned. He asked me to stay even though my job on the aircraft was done. It took several more hours, and the combined effort of our degrees folks and Martin Baker to figure out how to safely get the pilot out.

We did from time to time have other communication issues but none quite so intense.

I'd like to find the URL of the original map publisher. I've seen it before, but can't find it yet. Anybody know?
