Very good "western" you might not have seen

Post by Bill in Oregon »

It's about cowboys and cattle all right -- but Aussies driving their herds from the Northern Territories to Queensland rather than just shoot them lest they fall into the hands of the invading Japs.*
Based on real events in 1942 and shot in 1946, with a lot of non-professionals in addition to the actors.

* I don't normally use "Japs" in polite conversation, but when we are discussing soldiers of the Japanese Imperial Army of that period, they'l always be "Japs" at my house.

I watched an Australian western the other night and wasn't paying attention until I noticed that the stagecoach was a Five up with three leaders abreast followed by two wheelers, I think that's how the Australian stagecoach company Cobb & co had their teams.
Thanks for the heads up on the War Time cattle drive, sounds a little different... :D

I watched this Aussie cowboy movie Bill. I found it interesting to see that a lot of the way they did things was very similar to what was done in the old West here. Makes sense. Everyone was working with what they had at hand and cows act pretty much the same no matter what continent they are born on. :)

I'd never heard of it, so I searched it, found it on DVD on Amazon. I never order anything on line, but my boy often does, I'm gonna get him to try get it for me. As to interesting movies, about year ago I saw one on the guide of Direct TV i think most would really like, it just sounded like maybe decent, but had never heard of it, so I recorded it. "Old Henry" turns out one best movies I've seen in a while, have watched it several times already. Henry turns out to be Billy the Kid, hid out in his old age, married and a son, but wife had already died, on a farm in Kansas. Trace Adkins plays his brother in law, a neighbor and only one who knows who he is. Goes by name Henry McCarty, and few outlaws after another guy, bunch money they'd stolen? But the chase turns out on Old Henry's farm, killing a guy, and Old Henry winds up in middle, comes down to he's finally got to pick up his old pistol and use it! His son thinks him a wimp, but in end finds out who he really is. For sure, whom ever that is that plays BTK-Ild Henry, well they couldn't have picked any better to play the part! Great movie.
