Transcribe or translate. Transcribing the words would be the same. Translating allows those who do it to bend the words to fit their agenda.

It sort of reminds me of an old Star Trek. A planet similar to earth has a nuclear war. There is no winner. But the side Kirk contacts has the "holiest of holies". Only their leader can read and speak them. It's the Pledge of Allegiance.

Makes me nostalgic for the Palmer method, with those beautiful letters in white on a green background posted above the black board in grade school. It gets to be a challenge reading the earlier, much more elegant cursive of the 19th and 18th centuries though.

What would happen if a customs agent found a traveler with a note book written in Gregg or Pitman shorthand? :)

The first car I ever owned and paid for myself was a 1953 Studebaker Champion in line 6 cylinder with 3 speed on the column and over drive.
Paid 300 bucks for that care, and when I left home to go into the US COAST GUARD, in July 1969, my family drove that car all over the state of California until my brother totalled it.

When was the last time you could get a car that actually ran for 300 bucks?

Wow, what a beautiful car -- and made in my birth year. 8)
