With a couple good years of deer and garden harvesting, followed by the cumulative effect of Obamacare then a failed partnership and attempted bankruptcy (the court said with the state of healthcare our restructuring was not going to be viable- but we dropped all health insurances and are doing way better than before), the result was a couple freezers full of food but no time to rotate stock or do anything right (I was working 115 hours a week at one point).
Then since the freezers were in an outbuilding (our house is small), when one failed we only noticed when the smell outside was so bad we kept looking for a dead animal. We lost nearly all our venison -at least 200 lbs

So this Christmas project was to defrost and dispose - the key word being ‘dispose’ - most of the stuff behind the ice was produce from 8-10 years ago, and severely freezer-burned (although peaches seem immune to freezer-burn).
So today the chickens got a wheelbarrow load of peaches and tomatoes and peppers and peas and beans and apples and other stuff we had frozen, even including one bag of venison and two bags of chicken, and sadly, four bags of bacon…
