Re: Ever see a mold like this
For the man that wants only 1 bullet mold.
Interesting to see what others make for mulit-bullet moulds.
Thanks for sharing.

Re: Ever see a mold like this
When I heft a 4-cavity mould I want it to put out 4 at a time of the same bullet. Anything else is would be a pain in the posterior. I once had a mould cut that put out two plain-base and two gas-check of the same basic bullet. I have cursed myself ever since when I use that mould.

Re: Ever see a mold like this
I can see a multi cavity that throws 2 different diameters, say 38 and 44. Sorting 4 different weights of the same diameter would just be a PITA.
BROWN LABS MATTER !!
Re: Ever see a mold like this
I'm going with the trend here, it would make me buggy actually casting and sorting with that. As a curiosity it's pretty cool.
Re: Ever see a mold like this
I never saw such a thing. Personally I would not care to have one, but that's me.

I just wonder what would possess a man to order such a thing?

Re: Ever see a mold like this
I'm too old to be sorting bullets like that. Besides, if I want to cast for more than one bullet style, I'll use another mold.

Re: Ever see a mold like this
Even some single cavity molds are made far too heavy for long casting sessions. I don't buy multi cavity molds, and likely a lot of the various sizes I'd never load with. For my .45 handguns it's either 200 SWC, or a 250 gr. Keith style.

Re: Ever see a mold like this
I gotta tell you, when I was casting a lot I really liked aluminum mold blocks for long sessions.
If I go back to casting, there’s a Lee 255 gr mold that I think I would use quite a bit. If it shoots well I could be persuaded to shoot it exclusively.

Re: Ever see a mold like this
I have a 200 gr RCBS mold, 45-201 that I use pretty much exclusively in my 1911s. It has a very narrow shoulder that is seated so close to the case mouth that it doesn't interfere with feeding. 5.0 gr of Bullseye or 5.8 gr of 231 does it for me.
Re: Ever see a mold like this
in this case i will listen to the voice of experienced boolit casters and restrain myself from ordering the 4-in-hand model. thanks for the assistance. :)
Re: Ever see a mold like this
I have seen two cavity Lyman’s with two different bullets. This may be the first 4 cavity I have seen set up like that.
That Lee 255gr RNFP is a good bullet. I have shot quite a few of them.

Re: Ever see a mold like this
I've seen a couple. The only multi bullet mold I have is a single .36 cal round ball and a .36 cal conical. I could see having a mold like that if I used a few of each bullet type and only loaded a few at a time. But since I generally load 4-500 of a single bullet at a time, I'd want to cast that same bullet in multiples. While I prefer steel molds, for anything over a 3 cavity, I'll take aluminum. Although I really like my Seaco 4 hole #316 for the .30-30.

All of mine are aluminum. I've cast thousands of bullets through them and I can't see any reason to go back to steel molds.Scott Tschirhart wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 2:46 pm I gotta tell you, when I was casting a lot I really liked aluminum mold blocks for long sessions.

Re: Ever see a mold like this
I have a NEI two cavity that was sold to me as a 44 keithstyle mold. I cast up some bullets and when I went to size them I found out one was 44 and one was 45. I got rid of all my 45 caliber guns when I chose 44 for my centerfire revolver choice. I still have the mold somewhere.

Re: Ever see a mold like this
I ordered an Accurate 4 cavity aluminum mold with two 150 gr. and two identically shaped 250 gr. bullets for my .38-55. It is a real pain to keep the two sizes sorted, so I have taken to casting with just one or the other bullet to keep it simple. The mold pictured in the original post would be a nightmare!

Re: Ever see a mold like this
I never had one quite like that.
But, I did have a H&G 4 cavity that had 2 cavities of the standard #503 and 2 of the #503S. The 503 was the "standard" 250 grain Keith style 44 SWC but the 503S was 290 grain. The 503S had a longer shank below the lube groove but was otherwise the same as the #503. You couldn't tell them apart in a loaded cartridge, which I considered to be a disadvantage.
Both were accurate, but the mold ended up going to a H&G collector. It can be seen here: https://www.hensleygibbs.com/molds/503_240.jpg

.
Seen ads for them. Makes some sense if you were not wanting high-volume multi-bullet per pour stuff, but wanted a choice of what you were going to pour at a sitting.
Main problem would be which combination to choose from - same diameter but some with different weights, or a 30 cal and 45 cal, or what...

Re: Ever see a mold like this
I don't have four different cavities, but did order one with two different cavities, specifically for the .44 Russian. I shoot these in a 1865 Spencer reproduction, and the mold works great.

Re: Ever see a mold like this
I love the RCBS 45-201-SWC in 45 acp. I used a bit less powder, 4.6 Bullseye was my sweet spot. I got excellent accuracy out of a Springfield Armory Milspec.
