I've never had to remove the kinds of rust in the video. But since I am a chemical guy and one of the most important parts of what I did was protecting metal from corrosion I watched the video with interest. He's pretty much spot on.

The most corroded thing I've ever worked on was a 3" 50 caliber shell that my grandfather had made into a lamp. It sat around in my dad's garage for several decades. During that time it was used as a toy by me. Here it is today after I cleaned the case and shell. The shell was just coated to prevent corrosion. The shell was "antiqued" by a shop then coated to prevent corrosion.

I started to try and clean it using naval jelly, and it did a pretty darned good job but it was both time consuming and labor intensive. From where I started to what it looks like after professional cleaning is qite astounding. I wish I had thought to take before pictures.

His restoration videos are quite interesting. Happy he shared the formula as Evaporust isn't cheap!

That's a very interesting video! I don't often find youtube videos very interesting, but his is great and his homemade solution is obviously much better than Evaporust! I've used a lot of Evaporust in building old cars, but the one and done quality of it makes it even more spendy! The fact his solution works multiple times makes it even more appealing to me!
I think I might also try it to remove rust bluing when I'm restoring an old firearm!

Thanks for posting this! I use Evaporust a good bit. It works REALLY good, but it's gotten pretty expensive.

YES, evaporust removes bluing FAST. I found this out accidentally. takes bluing off clean, like it was never there.
