2024 Virginia ML opener .

Post by 6pt-sika »

This was the first year in four or five years that I hunted opening morning of the Virginia ML season . I was up the tree and perched by 06:45 . Legal shooting time was 07:08 if I’m not mistaken. Had a decent for the area buck come by about 08:55 at about 47 yards . Shot him behind the shoulder and surprisingly he ran about sixty yards straight to wards my ATV , think he crashed about twenty ish yards from my ATV .

Well done! Gotta love it when they run towards your atv/truck!
I had a real nice buck in the yard yesterday, if I had NOT been laying tile all week I would have tossed a bolt in his direction! I was whupped is an understatement!
Just crawled into my blind , put out some tink's... fingers crossed!

I used to use Tink’s but I saw something in the archery dealers magazine about a company in Texas that made scent candles . And ive been using them about ten years now .

Congrats well done on a nice buck! I didn't go during our early ML season in mid Oct, but if I've not scored during rifle season I'll probably go the late ML season in Dec. I've got an old CVA Mt Rifle 45cal I've had since 1977 that I've never deer hunted with. Gonna use a Patched Roundball & Goex 2f.

Here 'natural ' scents are outlawed, has to be synthetic. Guess the fear of CWD...
I've looked at the candles but since we haven't had any rain in 2 months I wouldn't even dream of an open flame in the woods! I mean it's DRY- our excavator dug us a foundation last week, no moisture in the soil 3 feet deep!!

This candle thing has natural doe urine in the wax . The candle isn’t open it’s in this little lantern looking thing . Instead of setting on the ground or hanging from a limb I have p cord tied on it and let it down from my stand to about four feet off the ground .
