Oh they can and do think!
One of our club members was bird hunting with his 2 English Setters, no cell phone. He fell and broke a hip. His dogs kept him warm through the night. Finally his wife called other members who went looking for him. The dogs wouldn't let his rescuers load him into the ambulance until a family member showed up!
